Sorry to hear about the accident. Hopefully everyone won't be too sore in the next few days. It sounds like your wife may be a little sore but the kids will likely be no worse for wear. I don't suppose your van is anywhere near the threshhold to total it is it? I wouldn't want a vehicle back after a significant repair. It's not that the vehicle can't be fixed right because it can. It's just that your vehicle will be worth less now. When you go to trade it in on a new one, they will pull a carfax report and see that there was a major repair done to it and that lowers the value. Money is pretty unimportant though when you think about the big picture. Anyway, speaking of clowns......I can't imagine trying to scrape eggs off of liverock. I'd suggest the tile idea and see how that works out for him.

Very true about the bigger picture in all of this that's for sure.

and your right about the rest as well;

One detail i did not post before our mini van that was hit is an 8 month old 2008. Nice huh......

Update time: I snapped a couple of quick pictures at lunch time today. This batch is already 14 days old today and they are eating bbs & oto A like little champs.

First head stripes were noted on last Friday so only 10 days from hatch this time which is a week faster then before. On Saturday night i went ahead and placed a sponge filter into the tank as they seemed to me to be big enough to handle it.

Hey I'm glad the fish are going well for you. I'm really happy however your family is ok. As long as you have the vehicle repaired by a good shop there is no reason it won't be "right again" I work in a shop that takes great pride in their workmanship and will warrant repairs as long as you own the car. I'm sure there are shops like ours in CA. Remember the cheapest is not always the best. Your insurance works differently then ours does here. It wouldn't matter how much the damage was. In Canada your own company deals with your car / claim. I'm not sure of what your rights are in the US but I'm sure its probably the same as here. You have the right to take the vehicle to the shop of your choice no matter the cost. If you have any questions / concerns with the repairs or estimates etc I'd be more than happy look at them for you. Just PM me.

I just read about the accident. I'm glad your wife and girls are OK. Material things can always be replaced. IMO no one under 21 should be issued a license. This coming from a guy raised in Hawaii, where they issued licenses at 16. Me and my sister were driving around the island at 13. LOL But back then there was no traffic, except mice and cattle.

On Topic: You are do great with the 14+ day old's. Congrats !

Yes the younger driver was insured (bare minimum) and was fine as far as i could tell as a matter of fact she did not seem to even care very much at all about what had happened. Her mom who was at the scene by the time i got there was very apologetic, I am not sure if she was cited at the scene or not due to California's New Hand's law which requires everyone to use bluetooth headsets while in a car.

If she doesn't care, perhaps a judge could revoke her license for a year or two until she does. That could have been much worse than what it was.

I've heard about various states having the blue-tooth requirement. To be honest, I think that is a great idea. Some of the more modern cars have everything built into the dash, from GPS to speaker phone. It really is a great way to keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.

And there is never anything wrong with just putting that person on hold when you get into a situation that demands your attention fully. When I see people trying to take a left turn through a busy intersection with their cellphone in hand, that just drives me nuts. Put it down, make the turn safely, and continue when the situation is less precarious. Seriously, can't we just take a time out to focus on what we're doing?

I'm done ranting.

Thank you for the offer & kind words; My insurance company has made the process for us real easy we selected the body shop which is one of the best in town and yes they offer a lifetime guarantee on their work; My wife's family has a business in town as well and we have had other work done there before, restorations, etc. This just happens to be our first collision project, lol. I guess what i really meant by not ever being right again is the fact that the car will now always have the designation of being in a wreck at some point in it's life.

Preach on, preach on I see no ranting here:cool:

Well i hope that everyone had a good x-mas and is off to a good start for the new year. Some updates for me; On x-mas eve i brought home my own present for me my pair of maroon clowns. As luck would have it my bta in my main reef decided to split a couple of days after x-mas so i was able to remove one of the pieces and give it to them it only took a couple of hours for them to jump in and they seem nice and happy so far. My perc's got the short end of the deal though as they ended up with a much smaller piece than before.

I did have something happen to my male perc in the reef though; it appears that something attacked him as he has a gash on one side of his mid-section, it has been a couple of days so far and he seems fine, still tending the nest, eating, etc. etc. I think that my kole tang may have gotten to close to the nest site and they may have had a little confrontation?

Is there anything i can do to help him out? or should i just let him be and hope that he heals by himself??

I did get my new macro lens as well but the pictures i took of his wound are blurry as i still need to play around with the new lens.

Here is the new pair of Maroon's:

Nice Maroons. I vote leave your Perc alone and let him heal on his own. If you start seeing signs of infection then I'd consider removing / treating him.

I agree, my female had a big gash on her side (I'm guessing my tang got to close), and I was very concerned but decided to wait and see. After about a week, it was almost completely healed. Now you can't tell anything ever happened to her. :)

Thanks guys for the advice; he looks a bit better today and i hope that it heals on it's own.

On a side note i think i finally had my first rotifer crash the temperature around here got down to 28 deg. for a couple of days and i did not have any heaters in my 5g rot tanks, and from what i can tell it may have finally just gotten to cold for them.

Can i try and reuse the gunk in the bottom of the tanks to restart the cultures or is it best to order some new ones and just start all over again??

You can use the gunk. It should work. Bring the temperature up slowly though or your temperature shock them as well.

Do i use new water for the culture and just add the gunk to it?
In my 5g tank? or do i need to start out with a small volume of water all over again?
What is the lowest temp. that they will survive at?
It is getting a bit crazy out there in my garage having to put heaters into every individual tank. The flip side is i will probably have an overheating issue to deal with in the summer.

I'd use new water and use the gunk yes. Bring the bucket / tank in the house. You are going to have to get AC for the garage :)

:D I think a bubbling tank of green water & rot's in the house would put me out in the garage for good :D
