Well alright ... ! Looking good Chris. How many day old are the little ones ? Looks like you have plenty of rot's too !

I think they were 3 days old in the picture above and yeah the rot's have done well in that tank it seems, I do not heat my rotifer culture tanks at all yet so i think when i remove them and place them into the nice warm water they go a little crazy.

They look great Dazed. How old are they? It seems too early for a WC to me. I just keep up the amquel until they are old enough (past meta) for me to put sponge filter in.

I am going with a hatch date of 12-2-08 for this batch. Since it took 2 days to complete. I had a bunch that did not hatch and were littered all over the bottom of the tank which is why/when i did the 1g wc. I did use some cloram-x on the tank and took water from my reef for the wc.

So what'd you decide? Construct a titanium fry shack or did you go with the geo thermal setup? haha seriously tho any updates on the little silver bellies?

 I would like to thank everyone for the suggestions and ideas on how to try and deal with the temperature issue out in my garage.

Update: My wife has now officially labeled me "out of my mind" as rock went into the 40g tank on Friday.

A space heater is not really an option as it would need to be large to do any good the garage is 20'x 30' and sectioning off an area just for the fish is not really an option either as i do use the space for allot of different projects.

What i did decide to do on Friday though was pick up a couple of sheets of Styrofoam from home depot 1" thick and made 3 pieces for the tank; (back, & 2 sides) this along with changing the heater to a 250w seems to be doing enough for now. I will try and get some pictures soon.

As for the little ones i did loose 3 of them over the weekend but the rest have nice silver belly's and seem to be doing well, i observed a couple of them last night kinking their tails and launching at rot's so that's a good sign.

I did add just a very small amount of bbs this am to the tank before coming to work.

So far so good no losses but the ammonia has started to creep up just a bit, wc time tonight. They are in green tinted water and are surrounded by rot's (have not added rot's for i think 2 days now) with an occasional bbs flying by them if they feel so inclined. Day 7 i think for these ones and some of them are starting to get some color to them it seems; meta should be close to starting i think.

The new little ones are now rapidly snapping up bbs so that's a good sign, last night i gave them their first big dose of bbs, after their wc, and only 3 hours later i had to shut off the lights in the tank as a couple of them looked; shall we say plumb and happy.

I have a question for everyone; I have been contacted by a rc member that lives fairly close to me (probably 45 minutes from door to door) who has been trying to raise some eggs as well. Unfortunately he has not had very good success to this point and wants to know if he can donate the eggs to me.

Can the eggs be transferred in this way and still have a good shot at life??

If so what are the recommendations for moving the eggs from one tank to another, obviously with a car ride in between??

I would say they probably could. You would need to ensure proper temperature. I would imagine the car ride would give enough movement to keep the eggs moving.

Woth a shot anyway.

FB

Eggs transport well, just keep the temp stable and use just enough water to keep them from drying out.

I wouldn't hesitate moving the eggs. What have you got to lose? If he's not having any luck with them anyway, give it a shot. What type of clowns are they(are they clowns?)?

Thank you for all the responses & suggestions. The owner is not sure if the clownfish he has are percs or occs. I am hoping that they are occ's so that i can compare the growth rate of them against my baby perc's. He mentioned in his email either bringing them to me after they had hatched out but it seems to me and from the responses here that it would be better to just move the eggs before they hatch; but that is going to present the first problem as from what i can tell so far they are laying on a large piece of live rock that is not easy to be moving around. Maybe i need to suggest the tile method to the owner and go from there.

I would definitely rather transport eggs if possible. The other option would be to use the straw method and scrape them off the rock.. I think that works on something smoother like a tile though.

I have transported percula and maroon eggs that were given to me from other hobbyists. They were laid on small pieces of rock or shells that were easily moved. But, I would try and get them when they looked like the were ready to hatch, leaving them in the care of the parents for as long as possible (best care). I would put them in a small bucket with enough water to cover the eggs and I assumed that the movement of the car during the ride was enough to circulate the water over the eggs. Once home, I would set them up with aeration. No problems!

Ok well last night i get one of those phone calls that no father/husband wants to get. My wife was taking our 2 girls (5 & 3) to go and see a xmas lights display in a park. While on the freeway traffic had come to a complete stop; my wife looks up in the rear view mirror and notices that the car behind her is approaching to fast, she turns around in the drivers seat to try and give a heads up to the kids when BAM!!! She gets rear ended while sitting there. To make a long story short this all just so happened to unfold right in front of a CHP officer who saw the whole thing happen. The young driver 18 was texting while getting on the freeway and as she pasted the officer he noticed this as well due to the fact that it was dark outside already and she was consumed with what she was doing rather than watching where she was going. The good news my kids are fine my wife is sore in the neck, shoulder and lower back area, the other car was going around 20-30mph. The bad news my wife's new 08 minivan is fixable but will probably never be right again. UH; sorry for the venting just counting my blessings this morning i suppose.

Ok some updates to keep this post legitimate for here; Over the last weekend i mentioned that i setup my old 40g tank and the plan is for a pair of GSM to go in there in the hopes that they will breed. I finally snapped some pictures of that tank this morning. My plan is to use this tank for the GSM and also as a growout tank for some corals from my reef. This setup has a couple of first's for me; T5 only for the lighting as well as being a bare bottom setup as well.

In this picture you can see the foam that i talked about before; it is 1" thick and for right now is on 3 sides of the tank to help with the colder environment of my garage:

and my 10 day old babies just because i had the camera in my hand:

Agreed i think eggs are going to be the best option it seems and the straw method is for people with more patience than me imo:lol:

Barbara; Thank you for the information it sounds like i can get this to work; the first step might be trying to get the owner to get them off of the large rock and to start laying the eggs on something that will be easy to transport.

Quick question for you I know you have been successful in raising different varieties of clownfish. Have you noticed that with the percula's they are much slower to grow & develop compared to the others? I still wonder if mine are ok or if i may be doing something that is holding them back.

I'm sorry to hear it too. Your wife will be more sore within 72 hours, and may need some stronger Ibuprofen to handle the pain. She also may need to be checked out by a doctor because she was twisted around at impact. Your kids are probably going to be fine, because of their size and how they were protected in the rear seats. Still they may need to be seen by a doctor as well.

I hope the younger driver was insured. Was she okay?

A friend of mine just got in the same situation at a toll booth (I hate tollways even more now than I did before), and her car was totaled because her car was thrust into the one in front of her. She'd just gotten it back from the shop two to three weeks ago, and 'was finally perfect' according to her.

Because the car was in two collisions in the first 8 months, it was totaled. Fortunately, it was a lease with gap insurance.

Sorry to hear about the accident. Hopefully everyone won't be too sore in the next few days. It sounds like your wife may be a little sore but the kids will likely be no worse for wear. I don't suppose your van is anywhere near the threshhold to total it is it? I wouldn't want a vehicle back after a significant repair. It's not that the vehicle can't be fixed right because it can. It's just that your vehicle will be worth less now. When you go to trade it in on a new one, they will pull a carfax report and see that there was a major repair done to it and that lowers the value. Money is pretty unimportant though when you think about the big picture. Anyway, speaking of clowns......I can't imagine trying to scrape eggs off of liverock. I'd suggest the tile idea and see how that works out for him.

Melev; Thank you for the kind wishes; My wife is still soar but doing better, the kids seem to be just fine. She did go and see a doctor the night of the accident they took some x-rays, etc. Prescribed some medicine and off we went.

Yes the younger driver was insured (bare minimum) and was fine as far as i could tell as a matter of fact she did not seem to even care very much at all about what had happened. Her mom who was at the scene by the time i got there was very apologetic, I am not sure if she was cited at the scene or not due to California's New Hand's law which requires everyone to use bluetooth headsets while in a car.

My insurance company is going to have to go after them as the estimate from the 2 bodyshops is higher then her coverage.

Your friend was very lucky to have the gap insurance in her case for sure.
