My Breeding attempt - Perculas:

If that one lonely clown does make it, he will have blue and orange stripes.

 Yes Andy and he will be LE and very expensive

Thanks dazed. I did already put in Oto A yesterday. I don't have any live BBS but I do have frozen. I also have cyclopeeze and the frozen rots. I think the cyclopeeze is too big though, that's why I haven't put it in. Hopefully my remaining rots in his cup will multiply quick. Thanks again for the suggestions! Oh, have you tried any of those and have they worked?

Just think, if you have a successful blue hatch, you can call them "The Blue Crew"! :)

I have the question of the day... Can I feed my 5 day old larvae the frozen cube Rots?

Rotifers are only as good as what is in their stomach for the most part and I know of no frozen that was gut loaded prior to being frozen. Freezing also bursts them and usually it's hard to find intact ones in the frozen cubes.

So I'm guessing IF I was to use the frozen rots, I'd have to look under the microscope for the intact and full ones and try to extract them? I have the equipment to do it but that would royally suck!

LOL, I know, I know. I was just being funny, although, I do have a tendancy to torture myself! :) That's what I'm going to do. It's just that this is getting costly because this is the 3rd time I've had to do this and somehow, my rots only crash "exactly" when I need them!

***Gresham - Sorry, I forgot to say "thank you"!

That's not how i read what Gresham said; sounds to me more like it's not going to work for what you want it to? Frozen rotifers may have a use for something but for feeding larvae i would avoid it based on Gresham comments.
and of course the culture crashed when you need it, it's all part of the fun lol.
If you have a hatch coming on the 24th i would add a heater to your current culture and get it ramped up for the next batch, or you could order a bunch and go from there.

Gresham; quick question i need to order some more rotifer diet but i had thought you guys had a new product that was released? I checked the site and did not see anything though?

I'm interested in this answer too. I'm ready to order some more Nanno 3600 but wanted to know about the new product.

No worries :)

I know of a few breeders in NJ, I bet they could act as a back up rot culture for you. Try asking over on www.marinebreeder.org as I know at least one of the MODS is in NJ :)

I ordered a batch of the new diet directly from Randy over the phone. It's call RotiGrow Plus. I ordered a one liter bag about a week and a half ago and poured them into bottles and froze all of them except for one bottle. Randy at the time also wondered why it wasn't on the website yet and mentioned that he would talk to the webmaster to update the site. My rots are loving it, I don't think I've had such exponential rot growth as I am having with RotiGrow PLUS. If it's not on the site yet, I believe you can all up directly and order it over the phone.

Thank you soooo much! I've known no one in the NJ area that's into reefing other than my "not so local" LFS that is 45 minutes away. Even if people aren't that nearby to me, it's still helpful to know that they exist for these emergencies! Thank you again!

So far I still have one little lonesome larvae left in my 1 litre container and the rots that are in there seem to be keeping up with his demand. I'm putting in 2 drops of Rot diet twice a day.

Just out of curiosity, are all of you folks using the S-strain or the L-strain? I've only been using the S-Rots but they are much harder to find. Should I be using the L's?

It has been released but not on our online store. I'll check with the COO today and see when she expects it to be up :)

You can read about them on both these PDF's. The website for them should be live any second now.

looks like i have some reading to do; thank you Gresham for the information.

at some point i had a culture of each but the "s" strain crashed; i tried using the muck from the bottom of the pail but i also added some of the "l" culture as well; so i may have a mix i am not really sure, but if i had to guess i would say i am using the "l" strain.

I know... Mine crash regularly because of my lack of maintenance / contamination. You aren't trying to dye them blue like that other guy are you? :)
