My Breeding attempt - Perculas:

10 days does seem long. I usually get mine on day 8 or 9 at the latest...

I have had some early birds when i have pulled the tile on the 9th day but the rest always go on the 10th.
The big issue for me lately has been trying to get the tile out & replaced on the 10th or she will double clutch.

Mine always hatch on day 8 like clockwork, Even without my "Miracle Hatcher"! :)

And YES, we are all CRAZY! Think of what we're all doing... for FISH!!!:crazy1:

I try and not remind myself of the time spent sometimes; It's like keeping receipts it's always to scary to go and look back at
:D

I believe I read something once that a certain food (possibly shrimp) can cause the casing to be too strong for the larvae to break out of! It is possible and this is why they take 10 days.

Do you have an account at MOFIB. You could try asking there. There are a lot of people with a lot of experience on this specific topic.

FB

Interesting as they do get shrimp in their diet. I do not have an account at MOFIB; maybe i need to lurk over there for some ideas & suggestions. Thanks.

I'll drop of some larger Otohime for you next time I'm in your part of the woods :) I think I need to pick up some meat anyways :D I also have another pellet feed that is supposed to be great, I'll drop a sample of that off as well.

You never drop me any food off... :)

That would be a real road trip North.

 He lives smack dab in front of the meat market I have been going to for 20 some odd years :) If you guys were closer I probably would drop samples off to you as well.

I'm going to LA this weekend so no grilling for me :( www.IE-CFM.com is the event, it's free

I was thinking the larger Oto, like the EP series. The A, B, C and S series are all larval and weaning diet. The EP series is more for broodstock IIRC.

Geez... just forget about us East Coasters!!! :(

Well you already know that your on the wrong coast:cool: :D

Ok so more curveballs lol. I had a batch on the tile set to come out on Monday the 7th (10th day again). When i notice Sunday morning that half of them hatched out into the dt. So i go through the normal motions of pulling & bubbling the tile etc. etc. only to find on Monday morning that only 5 hatched and the rest turned white and died on the tile. Female laid a nice new batch on Monday afternoon as well would have been the (10th day double clutch thing again).

Frustrating to say the least; well the 5 swimmers are in a rotifer soup for sure. For the last week and a half I have been using the new RotiGrow Nanno from reed; and all i can say is wow!!! The 2 cultures that i have been feeding are very densely packed with rot's. I currently have 3 cultures on the go and the 2 that have been feed the new stuff have far outpaced the other one. And the answer is no (I don't know) if anyone is curious of rot's per ml and all of that stuff; as i do not have the time or patience to count them
:D

You do have issues don't you? :)

Seriously though. At this point I'd probably sell off that pair and buy a proven breeding pair.

Well i have had the pair going on close to 7 years now i think; so i don't want to part with them, lol. But i do plan on keeping some of the offspring around to try and pair off in the future.
