My Breeding attempt - Perculas:

yes and have done so for over 2 years now, well let me clarify a bit, i start offering (before it was oto) & now it's the tdo, but i start offering the dry food around day 4 or 5 depending on how strong the batch is, i only do this for the morning feeding though, when the lights first come on for the day, i have found that at that time, their stomachs are stronger than their brains, and they are more willing to try out something new, you don't ever just stop one type of feed and start a new one, they need time to transition from one to the other, so you need to provide an overlap of the food in between.

Can you give me a time frame of when you go from A to B's?

wow! I have gone from the beginning and read this entire thread!! Everything looks awesome especially in your new setup.

I am at a standstill in creating my stand for tanks that I plan to purchase. How did you create your wood frame?

*Tagging along*

wow, well then you get a "A" in my book for effort, lol

the wood frame is nothing real special, i choose to stack the set-up to save on space, the wood frame is made out of 4x4, 2x4, & plywood. The sump for the broodtank is right below them, & the sump for the raceway growout is on a small addition to the left.

You can't buy it yet, its not been released for resale :) couple weeks :)

my apologies for the info, guess i jumped the gun just a bit, i thought that since the site went live, that the product was available to the masses, Gresh thanks for clearing that part up, you need to swing by & see the b&w after you get back from macna.

not really, as again each batch varies in the speed of development, i try & offer the next size available when i think it will fit in their mouths. ime i have about 5% or so that i call front-runners, they are the larger of the clutch/more aggressive, and are the first to be able to eat the larger size, the bulk of the clutch will grow around the same rate, lets say 95% of them, that leaves the last 5%, which are the runts, lol...they need a little more tlc to catch up to the rest. So again when i switch food size's it's done gradually to try and insure the whole group has something to eat. I hope that makes sense.

Are you following the same feeding schedule for the B&W Occ's as the percs?

for the most part yes; it's just at a much faster pace; which to me has been one of the most fascinating things about raising the b&w as compared to the perc's. The growth rate is so much faster. For instance my group of b&w's are just over a month old, have 3 stripes and are happily eating tdo B2. I have a clutch of perc's that are nearing 3 months old & are eating a size smaller than that (b1) and they have yet to even start the development of their 2nd stripes.

thanks for info an ya it makes sense. Sounds interesting with the percs. Our oldest pair are percs so looks like we have a long road ahead with the growing of the fry.

true perc's usually take up to a year to develop the 3rd stripe & for the black to really start filling in on them, are you raising larvae now?

hahaha thanks. I have limited experience with wood building, but I very much like your design. Seems that you just build rectangle bracing and plywood ontop, and attached that to the 4x4s?

yeah pretty much, i have built all of my own stands/canopy etc. this one was easy as all it has to do is function, without worrying about how it looks.

Not yet....Hopefully by December.

best of luck to you, if you have not done so already my recommendation would be to get some rot's & have a go at keeping a strong culture alive, it will make it much easier for you when the time comes for the larvae.

I want you to get on RGcomplete for feeding you rotifers. I have a bottle for you to try. It cuts out the ChlorAm-X addition since it has it in it, as well as buffers to keep you PH stable.

Ya we already have two buckets ready to go all we need to do is order the rots and food. Will order some after the first few spawns....

sounds like a plan, but you can always start now & feed the rots to your reef, just a suggestion, on a side note, judging by your screename i'm going to guess your a vw fanatic as well, i love my 58 type 1
