My BTA HATES me!

After what I think was an accidental food poisening & recovery earlier this year, my BTA has decided to move (not a huge problem right?)

Wrong... My Rods onyx/Picasso pair just laid their first batch of eggs over the weekend! :mad2: :mad2: Now the clowns are going frantic between the BTA & the nest. I think the nest is really thinning out now from lack of care from the parents.

I'm just really bummed right now. I've wanted to raise this color type of fry for ages. There are not gonna be any fry left to raise now & they will probably stop spawning since their home moved.

if you have any crabs, shrimp, stars etc...corals or any invert in your tank the eggs wont make it anyway...

after the eggs are laid you have to remove them and put them into separate tank...once they hatch that tank has to be pretty much filled with rotifers...

What makes you think the nem had food poisoning?

if this is thier first run than its normal for them to not take care of them that well. practice makes perfect!

I am well read on raising clownfish & I was going to snag them as they hatched BUT I was going to let the first batch go as I was not expecting them to start spawning now & dont have rots going yet.

Eggs are gone, the clowns did not spend enough time taking care of them, they kept jumping from the nem to the eggs. They decided to stop taking care of the eggs & stay in the nem yesterday some time.

I think it had food poisen because after I fed it about an hour later it started looking really bad & spilling its guts soon after.

I have a feeling because of the bta moving the clowns are going to stop spawning now because they are ****ed so no more practice to make perfect

doesnt mean it was food poisoning....

nems dont have bums and they expel waste via their mouths...

if there was guts hanging out too, then likely the food you fed was too large..



from what i have gathered you are not supposed to leave the eggs in the display tank...supposed to be in a 5-10 gallon tank with a heater, a powered head blowing on the eggs, and a butt load of rots when they hatch...good clean water and regular changes to detoxify the dying rots and phyto used to feed them....mind you have more to read and not really looking into until mine have started laying their eggs..best of luck...i am sure they will start laying again soon as they settle down from the in-promt-to move..

They dont expell waiste for over a week. It looked on the verge of melting then finally started to make a comeback.

No you dont "need" to pull the eggs out of the main tank, but you have to be there when they hatch with a bowl & flashlight. They will swim toward the light & you can scoop them out. Many people do this as their clowns wont lay on a tile that they can take out.
