My build!

That's where I got the rock for my small tank 10 years ago. The tank is still running and I still have a few sponges left. I got "the package" and it was great except I always thought the sand was too course.

Make sure you post pictures - that is the best looking live rock in my opinion.

I got the 20 gallon package, just enough rock to finish off my aquascape and seed my dry rock. I also only got 5 lbs of the sand for my fuge, and a few extra critters. Picking it up next week, I'll post pics for sure!!

Looks great! I've never kept those sponges but really like them. Are they tough to keep in captivity?

lol Don't know, this is my first time trying to keep them. Richard just threw them in with the live rock package I got, you can't beat free!! So far they seem happy, I'll post updates as things progress.

Anybody know the best way to secure a sponge to LR? I have one that just won't stay where I put it, it's always falling over onto the sand bed. I'm sure my diamond spot goby has something to do with it, but I've never caught him in the act lol Any ideas?

Other than the goby I've added a couple corals, and nice duncan frag and a small zooanthid frag, couldn't tell you exactly what kind of zoos but there's probably 20 heads on it and they look awesome. I had a green star polyp frag on a small rock that I had to get rid of because the thing was covered in green hair algae. Anybody have any green star polyp that they want to frag out?? I'll post some pics soon!!

I have plenty of GSP, located in Wentzville, not sure where you are in STL

I actually live in IL, but work in downtown STL. I could always meet you someone in between, just gotta find the time to get out there lol.

Added a few updates in my blog, check it out! Also, I gotta brag on these babies:

Picked them up at Saltwater Paradise this weekend, I've had my eye on them for months!! lol

Also Nanook, you asked about the sponges before. If you look at my latest full tank shot in my blog and compare it with some of the first pics I posted, you can see the growth on a couple of them. The tall orange one is definitely a lot thicker and healthier looking, and the red one right below it in the latest picture is encrusting onto the rock, so I'd say they're doing pretty well. The only one I lost was the yellow ball sponge, not sure why it didn't survive. I also lost one of the gorgonians, but I expected that.

So the tank has been up and running for 3 months now, and everything looks great. Did a bunch of maintenance tonight (cleaned skimmer cup, changed out GFO, changed filter sock) and tested everything just to see how things look. Here's where I'm at right now:

Ammonia: 0 (Red Sea)
Nitrite: 0 (Red Sea)
Nitrate: 1 (Red Sea)
Phosphate: Undetectable (Nyos)
Alk: 9dkh (Red Sea)
Calcium: 390 (Nyos)
Magnesium: 1275 (Salifert)
Specific Gravity: 1.024 (Slowly raising to 1.025) (Refractometer)
pH: 8.1 (Apex Lab Grade pH probe)

I'm still a bit perplexed by my pH. 8.1 is the high, at night it's going down to approx 7.8-7.9. Alk has stayed steady at 9 and I'm running a co2 scrubber on my skimmer air intake. I just don't understand why I can't get it any higher than that. Suggestions? Everything looks really happy, so I still suspect the accuracy of my pH probe. I suppose as long as everything is doing well it's not that big a deal, I just don't understand why it won't get any higher.

Mag and calcium are a tad low.

As for you Ph do you have a light on your sump that runs opposite of your dt lights?

I know Mag and Calcium are a bit low, I've been working to bring those up. I've got some kalkwasser on order, I'm hoping that stabilizes things a bit.

I do have a light on my sump as well, it run opposite of dt lights.

I'd be happy with an 8.1. I seem to run in the upper 7.8s to low 7.9s. Typically I see my pH lowest at this time of year since there is so little fresh air in the house.
