My chromis are breeding!!!

For the last 2 weeks my chromis have been breeding like mad. I'm sure many of you have seen them. I bought them a long time ago from Barry. They were the really big ones that were in the 150g display they use to have. Anyhow, they've had several batches of eggs. But they keep getting eaten by other fish in my community display. If I move them to a tank by themselves do you guys think they will successfully breed and raise the fry? I thought it was difficult/next to impossible for SW fish to breed in captivity with the exception of clownfish and cardinals.

I have a spare 30 g tank I could move them to, but hate to go to all the trouble if they won't raise them.

If you move them they will likely stop breeding. Many SW fish can be spawned but it's hard work and takes a long time to get them stable enough to make it worth doing, it's also fairly rare in home aquaria. If you can get the eggs removed you may have a chance.
Congrats though.

What do you feed your tank?

That's what I was afraid of Ron. I feed a large variety of a little of everything from fresh market seafood, NLS pellets, Formula 1/2, all types of frozen. My fish get about everything to be honest. I guess that's a sign they're happy. They're on their 3rd batch right now. She plastered the back of the tank last night. It was pretty amazing to watch the activities.

Yes I think you are feeding perfect. Usually people who feed live brine report spawning. Try to get some pics next time.

Do you know for a fact that chromis raise their fry ? they seem to dont seem to be a territorial fish ala clowns so I wouldnt be surprised if they just scatter them to the current or whatnot. Try siphoning the eggs out ( or if they are stuck on rocks remove the rocks ) and raising them yourself in a spare tank. You'll probably want to start some rotifer cultures in the meantime.

Its interesting to do but it takes a lot of time and effort. If you do not take the eggs out before they hatch there is a very slim chance you will be able to get them to survive. I would not syphon them, that would probably kill most of them. If they lay on a rock you can remove the rock. Does the male chromis stay with the eggs like the male clown does?

And yes you will need green water and rots to raise the fry. If you decide to do it, I would be interested in buying some green water and rotifers off of you. But I would only be interested in the rots if they are S strain. This is the type I would suggest you buy if you get serious.
