Nice pics Danorth / Magvi.
Magvi - I see he's getting his "indo" dorsal extension...... no sign of that on mine yet..... your guys stripes seem more advanced than mine, but my guys face mask sees more "complete"..... just goes to show how they all develop differently :)

Hi All,

Its about 8 or 9 months since I updated this........ heres a couple of pics taken today:

I honestly don't know how big he is..... at least 7"..... close to 8" I would say..... I'll try and measure him!

Hi Matt,

Beautiful Emp! Can't wait to have one.

In the early on pics he was in with an RBTA and some corals, is he still in there with them? Does he bother them? I am especially interested to know if he is ok with the RBTA?

Thanks

Ha ha....... in a word, no...... well, sort of.

Before you read any further, do a search for star polyps or green star polyps (GSP's) and people looking for something that will eat them........

Did my emperor eat them...... yep
did he eat the shrooms ..... yep
did he eat the so called noxious sacrophyton toadstools..... yep
and all the other so called inedible corals..... well he eaither ate them or tore them to shreds for fun...... LOL

I remember someone saying to me that as he grew he would, and mine was so placid and not in the least bit interested I thought maybe I was on to a winner...... nope.....

Two corals remain...... a sort of branching soft coral thingy.... hich is thriving - and the RBTA, which is not doing so well.....

THe latter is not doing so well becuse of me, not the fish. I really need to clean up the water quality, and feed the RTBA more etc., but as is so often the case life is seriously in the way at the moment....... been layed off again for the seoncd time in less than 6 months - so between spending 200% of my time searching for a job, and worrying about the bills & mortgage...... the tank maintenance and resources to pay for same have not been at the top of my priorities (I'm ashamed to say).......

But he never touched the hard corals....... but I got rid of them long ago at this stage. Would he have ..... I don;t know. I reckon that in order to have any sucess you need to feed very heavily..... too heavily in my opinion...... and then you'd struggle with water quality...... so unless you have a big tank, deep pockets, and lots of time, it is not something I could recommend for the medium to long term.....

HTH

Matt

Thanks Danorth.

Funny how each side of te fish develops differently....... one side is almost perfect, while the other "needs a bit of work"...... :)

This is mine. I have had him since 3 inches. This has all happened in the past 6 months. Grown over an Inch. I take pictures every few weeks.

First purchase. In QT

Awesome thread guys! I only wish the Emperor were reef safe.:D

Some say they are..... some actually are..... but my experience, and the esperience of any long term owners that I know would say definitely not.

He lets my RBTA alone, but everything else, include 'shrooms and star polyps (even GSP's) got eaten!

Gorgeous! So your still keeping your tank and everything in it? Any update on that?

Yep - everything status quo..... skimmerless is going quite well for me..... and quite well for the fish too.

Thanks for giving me the link to this thread Matt. Certainly shows how every single specimen is different as far as transitional times are concerned.

The only thing that aggrevates me is when I visit LFS and see specimens smaller than mine with full adult colouration. LOL!
