My first attempt in taking pictures..

So I got a new camera for my wife and started a nano-reef... so I thought I would test it out. I'm new to photography so I have a lot to learn...

If you have some suggestions, I would definitely love to hear them!

They do seem to be too blue...

The camera is a Sony H5 .. 7.2MP, 12x Optical Zoom Digital Camera.

I do want to get a lense that will allow me to zoom in further... there are a bunch of little things that look like shrimp running around my tank, but too small to photograph. What's the technical term for a "zoom type lense?"

Anyway.. here are the pics.

Zoas - Anyone know what kind these are?

I have more photos on my online gallery and that is where I will post my pics as I take them... The gallery can be reached at:

Thanks for looking and let me know what you think!

Very nice for first time shots! I'm sorry to hear that your snail is gone... they don't leave their shells, so either it died or was killed by the crab, crabs do that.
I don't know the proper name, but I have pink zoos just like yours!
I don't know your camera as I have a canon 350D, but look through your manual and see if you are able to adjust your white balance; take a shot in each WB mode to see which is most pleasing.

Thanks!

As far as the snail... I took a picture of what I thought was the shell-less astrea snail. It showed up after the crab took the shell so I associated it with it.

Any idea what it is if it isn't the Astrea Snail?

I think I'm getting better now... changing the White Balance seems to make a difference! Tomorrow, I'll see what I could do with the Aperature and such!

Tonights best pics (out of 200 or so :p) These pictures were huge so I had to resize them, and shrink it. Hopefully that didn't take away too much detail.

For those who are on dial up... sorry!

I think this is a feather duster... it is on one of the shells my crab stole from an Astrea Snail.

Close up of my clown... I can't seem to get rid of that blue line on the white stripe on his head... he must be moving too fast... I'm basically using my clown and comparing the pics to see how I am improving...

Definitely much better once you adjusted your white balance. Getting rid of the blue on the white stripe of a clown can be frustrating, I think this is called chromatic abberation. Notice how the highlights in the front white stripe or overexposed, and this is next to the very dark black. Also, make sure you shoot through your glass as perpendicular as possible, angles can make the problem worse.

yes, that's a good point. If you're able to, adding a hood to the end of your lense and placing the hood flat against the glass really helps, as well as adds a tiny bit of stability. Looking good!
