My first clam, a squamosa.

Hmmm, what do you mean by fused together? Do you mean on the side opposite of the byssal opening? That side should be hinged and not as separated as the side of the byssal opening. Your Squamie looks fine to me (first day). I don't see any "pinching", maybe others can comment. As your Squamie acclimates & get's use to his surroundings, he will open about twice the amount as in your pic. I've noticed that Derasa's & Squamosa's open a lot wider than Maxima's & Crocea's. My Squamie is an active guy. He can turn 90 degrees to suit himself towards the amount of light that he wants. My other Maxima's, Crocea's & Derasa hardly move at all.
Nice clam & good luck with him or her.

Thanks all for the comments. The squamie is all swell with no signs of stress. It's simply doing great! Thanks again Chad for such a great buy! Will do business again (2-3 weeks).
