my first jbj nano cube setup

Raise your water level in the return sections. It should only be about a 2"-3" drop for the water coming into the return chamber. That should take care of it.

John I did that im still getting air bubbles....I took the pumps out rised them out, filled the chambers way to the max, put the sponges back in, took my filter pads and cut two peaces to match the sponges and tried them back there and nothing. Man its such a eye sore im about to tear the tank down I have no idea what im doing wrong at all. Between that and this damn tank stand scaring the hell out of me when ever I go to clean the algee of the front of the tank im scared to scrub to hard that the tank will fall off. lol man im having all kinds of issues with this tank and im just starting it....

It takes a while for a new tank to settle down and get all the little issues worked out. That skimmer issue I had when I first started almost made me quit also. For the time being point both nozzles to the surface and that will help a little.
Did you check the 90 degree joints on the return lines where they go through the back wall? Mine had one that was loose that I only found once I saw the salt creep.

Clean the glass up and down, not side to side, I know exactly what you mean.
This spring I'll build me a new stand.

Yeah I remember reading your thread and seeing you had those issues with micro bubbles to, those bubbles are enough to drive you crazy! I just checked my water and it looks like my cycle has finally ended so I'm going to get a clean up crew tonight! I have algee all over the place! That's driving me insane to but I guess that's half the battle with having a fish tank right hahaha.

Sorry forgot to post pics haha heres some of the nasty algae that has spread threw the tank. I have to clean the glass every day! Got 10 hermits and 4 snails last night just to start off small. As soon as I put them in the tank they went right to work eating everything!

Ok so I went back to the fish store and got 10 more hermit crabs and 8 more of the same snails since there super tiny but there great they get in the sand the glass and rock.
Also I got to talking with the owner about how I wanna do corals but I'm scared as hell to and he basically talked me into and I bought a candy cain or its a trumpet coral he was sure on the name and he gave me two free mushroom corals for free, he said to help jump start my tank. So now that I have a cool relationship with the owner I feel a little more confident with this saltwater stuff. My water levels have been spot on since I've started so I guess I'm on to a good start. Should I also spot feed these corals from time to time with brine shrimp or anything?

With 20 hermits you're going to need to feed them also or they will start killing your snails. I take raw table shrimp and tear into tiny pieces (about half the size of pencil eraser) and drop in about 4-5 pieces a day. They'll go nuts when you first drop it in.

The only coral I spot feed is my duncan. I usually feed the fish heavy anyway and figure there is still plenty floating around in the water for the rest of them.

I threw in some chopped silver sides. They ate some but i think they got full fast. I left it in there in case over night hopefully it doesn't start a ammonia spike. My candy cane has opened up more then it was at the store today i noticed. I need to try and get some reef snow. I got some freezed dried krill but dumb me, they only float in the tank lol. I guess ill use that when i get my clowns. Ill have to take pics tomorrow when i get home of my corals.

I did finally get a pic of that shrimp thing. As soon as i threw that krill in it came flying out the rocks. I dont know if i get some time tomorrow i might have to pic up some reef snow but i need to watch my money.

Mine has been running 1 week and 2 days. I wonder what the cloudyness is..my tank is crystal clear. Are you sure its not the glass that's dirty?..I never ran my long sponges from day one and I've had no micro bubbles..

Check around there are several threads about what will fit the tank. The two that seem to have the most support are Eshopps PSK75H (me) & the aquamax hob1. Most of the others you have to remove the media basket.

My tank was clear the first week after the sand settled to but after i did my first water change all hell broke lose haha. Yeah ive cleaned the glass im running filter floss carbon and purgen its always either shooting micro bubbles or just looks foggy.
Tanks john ive been looking around im just trying to find one thats not super expensive and i dont have to lose the filter. I like knowing ill have a filter and skimmer running makes me feel safer hahaha.
I think this week i might try and go for a pair of clowns or a jaw fish not sure yet. I wanna get some small shrimp and maybe one of those pom pom crabs or a porcelain crab. I would like to try some of that pulsating coral xeniatha? But no one has it around here they say its to difficult to ship but if i can get some and frag it two stores aid they would be more then happy to give me store credit for it. So i think i really need to find that so i can get a free skimmer down the line hahaha.

I have a 28g led. Going off the assumption that the sump area is the same...which I think it is you have quite a few options. Remora nano, Aquamaxx HOB-1, Eshopps PSK75 or JBJ even makes a skimmer specially for the auxillary chamber in the back. I know you said you didn't want to sacrifice your media basket but the Tunze 9002 is an option. A lot of people run/have tried it.

With all things being equal it isn't about which skimmer is the best. It is which is best for you. Do you want a skimmer you can easily access your tank w/out getting into modifications? Do you want a skimmer that is easy to tweek? It's all subjective...everyone of them has a plus and minus.

However, personally...after running all the skimmers that will possibly fit on the cube I like the Aquamaxx the most. Good luck with your decision

Krkosiba thanks for the input. Ill defantley look into that skimmer as well. Im probably going to hold off for awhile and just keep doing my weekly water changes till i get my tax return. I want to do some more research on the skimmers out there as well just for the reasons you said. I just want something i can fit in the tank with out having to cut or drill or do anything crazy lol i think im alittle worn out on do it your self projects

If you are looking for a skimmer that requires no mods. Well, it sure isn't the greatest out of all the skimmers I recommended but it fits perfect. JBJ's

What to expect: Everytime you want to get into the tank to clean etc. you have to remove the cup. Which in itself is a hassle and sucks because I feel like when you remove the cup you lose momentum. It is powered by an airstone which in return is driven by an air pump. It can be a little noisey but if you like it you can buy a quiter air pump.

In retrospec it really wasn't all that bad for the price of $50. It produced pretty fine bubbles with the airstone. Fine bubbles equals better contact time :)

Yeah im starting to think the 50 doller jbj skimmer might be a good option to get me by for awhile till i can make a jump to a real one. Im really starting to enjoy the saltwater hobby alot, it always gives you something to look forward to and the more work you do on your tank the more it gives back. Haha the best part is when you go to the pet store and people see you buying saltwater stuff they think your in some elite club lol. I took some take pics from when i fed my candy canes just thought id share
