My Fish eat brocolli

I have tried many times to feed my fish vegis, never succeeded.

so can you guys walk me through it ?

fresh broccoli, freeze it in the freezer over night, then day after just thaw in microwave ? or let it cook too ? then cut into small pieces and feed ?

same with cucumber and others ?

I cant even get anything to eat lettuce ! not sure what Im doing wrong.

Well lettuce is actually no good as far as nutritional value goes..Romain is OK ,but iceberg is basically water..

I just let it thaw in a bowl of water ,i never nuke it ..Then i will rubberband the whole thing stalk and all to a rock and let them have at it ..they pick the whole top clean..
Same with spinach ,,just thaw in water(always use tank water) and attach to a rock or clip..

I don't cook it just thaw it. They do like it to be softened a bit but not cooked. . You might try Norri toasted sushi wrap . My guys love that. If you want your tangs to eat vegis then stop feeding them the other stuff. put some sushi wrap, softened broccoli or spinach in there and they will eat it eventually. Eating different things is a learned response. New fish learn it from the older guys.Once you teach your tank to eat then they will all pick it up. Hand feeding , same time same place helps them learn. When my guys are eating the tank is like a shark frenzy. Most food doesn't last long. You might also try just stripping some broccoli flowers into your tank. They are small and after you nuke them they are neutral so they float around. Ever y one goes crazy over the small specs so it might be a good way to get them to eat the bigger pieces.

I'm glad to see a thread on veggies that doesn't say "If it isn't SW based, it shouldn't be fed to SW fish".

Probably the #1 food for SW herbivores (if there is really such a fish) is FW harvested spirulina algae. Arguably the most popular meaty food for SW carnivores is PE mysis, also from FW.

As long as I'm chatty and we're in the produce aisle: Try feeding your tangs, or any omnivore, some banana. Mine go nuts. Just a bit at a time if the banana is ripe, its messy. They love the long stringy thread that separates the fruit from the skin. Never feed asparagus, the uric acid can be dangerous (I was told by one of the best hobbyists I've ever known). Asparagus is too expensive anyway.
