I did ask in the email if what they were selling was, "99% pure pharmaceutical grade CP"?

They were probably thinking, "Oh geez, this guy is being all picky about his CP." :spin1:
 
I have a powder blue tang that is in my 29 gallon qt tank. I dosed the tank with ich x and I was told this thing never works. I bought CP from a Vet and I am ready to use it. Should I do a big water change or put carbon before adding the CP? I go ta CP in 250 mg tablet also. Do we just dose the CP once in the tank and just add cp when water changing?

interesting that he's offering a certification now. he was the same individual acquiring his CP from questionable sources named above and sold to folks who had negative experiences posted on here with its effectiveness.

now that he's offering a certificate i wonder if his source changed and/or would be a new reliable option.

Ich-X contains formalin, and it would make me very nervous mixing that with CP. I would run carbon/do a very large WC before beginning CP treatment. Using all new water would be optimal.

Just to be clear, you are treating this PBT for an active case of Ich? If so, dose @ 40 mg/gal, wait 24-48 hrs depending on how the fish looks/is still eating, and then dose @ 20mg/gal. Ramping it up to a total concentration of 60mg/gal over 2 doses might be "playing it safe"; but better safe than sorry, right?

FYI; 40mg/gal is usually sufficient for just prophylactic treatment i.e. when no obvious symptoms are present.

Hmm.. well it looks like he's got 100% positive feedback, I'd think if people weren't happy they would put up negative reviews on his ebay page?
 
so, I've been using CP acquired from Fishman Chemical, have not had any known issues with it, have successfully treated Ich and Velvet many times over several years....

so, lets say for the sake of this discussion, that the CP is not pure pharmaceutical grade, if it achieves a cure does it really matter?

if there are treatment failures does it necessarily imply the failure is due to an impurity of the drug?

I've had treatment failures using copper (and several other medicinals) in the past, does that necessarily imply the copper was not pure grade?

I'm not defending Fishman here, just trying to understand why this discussion is focused on an impurity of CP
 
maybe it's been said already, but what's the best way to stop CP treatment when you're done? Just running carbon, or a UV filter? and about how long would it take to feel confident that there is 0 CP left in the QT system?

I do a 50% WC and run a lot of carbon, when I see algae starting to grow I assume it's safe for coral and for practical purposes CP is gone

Good points. I'm certainly willing to concede that errors on my part contributed to treatment failures.

First impressions are lasting impressions. If someone trying CP for the very first time uses a "watered down" version, then they are likely to just dismiss it as another "snake oil" when it fails them. Which is a real shame because IMHO we have "rediscovered" an anti-parasitic medication which is superior to copper in every way. Before I found CP, I treated every single fish with copper for 30 days. I remember many fish that would start eating less & less, and in general look terrible... I would just hope & pray they could hold on until the 30 day threshold. It was rough on the fish, and very stressful on me. Because I'm the kind of person that if I lose just one fish, I feel like a failure.
 
Long before fish chemical offered Chloroquine I ordered some 250 mg tablets from Canada. It was much cheaper than my local drugstore. Anyway it clouded the water and it seemed to lack efficacy. It didn't work.

I fortunately found a reasonably priced, binder free, formulation at a local veterinary pharmacy and then the online merchants started selling it. Their dosing regimens were all over the place, ridiculous water changes, many misstatements, and just inaccurate info. People started buying their products and reporting the clouding and ineffectiveness with treatment. A theory developed that it either was not chloroquine or is was a percentage of chloroquine.

I never understood why such misinformation from the merchants. It Didn't Really make sense but was surely out there and possibly there was a scramble to fill the need since demand was building.

If a vet or pharmacy sells adulterated product or even labels the stuff incorrectly they risk losing their license and livelihood. If they sell a product that requires a script without one, again they have a tremendous amount on the line. If an ebayer or retail company sells bad stuff or has labeling issues what can happen? Maybe a fine? Civil lawsuit at best.

I looked into purchasing the stuff from China myself. Not difficult. Sold by the kilo only and had the same fake "rent and office" address as some online suppliers certificate. I may have done it if I didn't have the issues with Canada. Sometimes you do get what you pay for and other times the gamble pays off. I ordered 40 kilos of bio pellets from china 3 months ago and the stuff is working well.
 
sooo my achilles has some kind of internal/external infection. i have no idea what it is.

tried metronidazole, paraguard, and lastly cupramine and now formalin today as he still has it...i have a blue hippo with him and 3 other damsels in the QT tank and none have any issues except him.

he still swims around and eats almost everything i put into the tank.

bought some CP from the ebay guy so maybe this "med" will work...

i have a 55 QT tank and was wondering if my calculations are correct...

ill be using 2.2grams of CP for the 55 tank?
