My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

Is it really that high, I thought it was closer to 3$ per G? Ok well then I feel better about it I suppose. The pharmacy only had 4 pills and none in the powder form so I will have to wait anyway

It was around $2-3 per gram the last time I bought some (3 or 4 years ago). The price has since doubled/tripled if you are buying it from a legit source i.e. pharmacy. I believe there's been a lot of malaria outbreaks in Africa, thus a shortage of CP and the reason for the price hike.

I wonder if there's any money to be made selling "aquarium fish" health insurance, complete with a prescription plan. ;)

It's about like pet insurance, rarely used or cost worthy. I have a deep dislike for insurance companies and everything involved, being that I'm a type 1 diabetic and have been for the past 18 yrs. If only it were that easy

As expected, the Moorish Idol did not make it. That brings my total fish loss to 7, not sure what happened but he was doing well until yesterday. My water is cloudy and has been since beginning of treatment, is that normal using CP?

My fish have been in the tank with CP for 3 days now and the water is crystal clear. I used RO/RI water and no conditioners or medications. I am using the CP from ebay.

I have a question regarding antibiotics. My new fish are in their QT right now in CP and will be for 30 days. Followed by a 7 day PP. Should I also treat them with an antibiotic? They all show no signs of anything wrong at the moment but I want to make sure they are as close to perfectly healthy before putting in my CLEAN Reef-Tank. If so, what are the best antibiotics to use? Thanks!

Only use antibiotics if the fish look like they need it after the CP treatment. Some fish develop a bacterial infection type thing when in CP others don't. Don't use antiobiotics unless you have to, all antibiotics kill filtration capacity

Thank you. I was thinking that but figured I would ask. What is a good antibiotic to keep on hand in case I need it?

Something that is broad spectrum and treats gram positive/negative. I have ciproflaxin on hand for carpet anems and also for fish treatment if need be

I have a question regarding using light during CP treatment. I have turned it on twice a day to feed for a length no more than 5min. So it is only on for 10min or less every 24hrs. Will this hurt the treatment?

Well i did a 30g water change on my 75g QT today and I realized why everything looked so cloudy all the time, the glass had algae film on it! This took me by surprise because i was not expecting algae in a tank with CP in it. I added more CP of course to account for the water change but my gut is not sitting right with this and feel like something is wrong. I'm almost 20 days into treatment and 2 of my fish, blue hippo and Salifin tang still look bad to me and they are both scratching on PVC or bottom of tank. My Salifin especially looks pretty bad. Can someone look at this video and tell me what they think? Notice his skin and paleness. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Svhrska7k-w

The blue hippo i must admint was a lot worse as i've stated earlier in this thread but he still is showing symptoms. This is what i've done to summarize:

8/27 - started treatment and added 3grams to 75g tank
9/3 - performed 20g water change and added 1gram of CP to this
9/13 - 30g water change and added 1.5grams

On 2 occasions, i've also added Cipro to the tank just before loosing 2 fish during this process hopping to save them but failed. Thoughts? Comments?

It is hard to see anything other than the big gash on his right side towards his back fin. Sorry about your fish. What is it that you are treating them for with the CP?

Interesting, I look at my tank earlier today and noticed a film on the acrylic so I'm experiencing what you are. I know the stuff works though since I had all the bristle worm die off and subsequently lost the 8 fish... If the fish are still scratching then I would be lead to believe that the ich is still surviving?? Do you have it at 40mg/g? I would up it to 50mg/g or 60mg/g even and see if the fish still do that after 10 days... I know the CP will kill ich off completely in 10 days (it's been sighted in several books) If I had less fish I would of just gone the TTM route but when the only seeded media you have is ich infested I don't think TTM works...

Its most likely either ich or velvet but not sure which. Either way, CP should be able to take care of either one of these.

How would I up the dose? Do i have to try and remove whatever is in the tank and redose it from the begining at 60mg/gal?

Well i may have went a bit overboard but i decided to just dose another teaspoon and see what happens. Funny that after almost a 50% water change and 24hrs later, that ammonia badge has not changed color at all.

Still reading that you have ammonia like before?
