My kole tang eats fish poo

And does not spit it out. Honestly I saw him do it a few times and I watched very closely as my PBT made some poo, the kole tang dashed out of no where and grabbed up every last piece. He did not spit it back out.

Is this normal for kole tangs? I've seen all kinds of fish grab some by mistake and spit it out but this is different. :thumbdown

When my large sailfin has a large poo it looks like feeding time with my bristle tooth and wrasses eating every last piece. Waste not want not I guess LOL.

Very normal, especially for that genus. Is he potty trained yet? Many will only poop in a certain spot in the tank :)

Kole tangs are considered "detrivores".
Consuming fish wastes is a very natural part of their diet.
I have always had a kole tang, not for this reason specific, and they have all exhibited this behavior.
And my tang is potty trained also, back right-hand corner. In which the poo gets blown over the zoanthids; another "free" meal.
Ah... the circle of life.

Even my foxface is getting in on the "free" food.
The tang and foxface will chase the other fish around as they poo.
Certainly no privacy!

Front, right corner of my 75, about 4 inches from the bottom. Then, he turns around and eats a good bit of it. I wish he would do it by the overflow.

My kole is also a poo eater. His favorite is the starry blenny's poo the tang will come from across the other side of the tank to get it. The starry is my best algae eater and what he eats comes out similar and doesn't have a chance to hit the ground.

You know Kole's can be quite mean and nasty! I have a yellow head jawfish that never ventures beyond his den just hovers over it popping in and out all day. Well the tang many times swims up to the jawfish's den, scares him back down, positions himself over the hole and poops on him! The nerve he does it on purpose too weirdest thing I’ve ever seen!

Kole tang and One Spot Foxface exhibit this behavior as well in my tank. Kole tang right front corner of tank almost every time as well. lol.

:jester:

My neon blue goby will go perch on my rubble pile in the corner of the 55G after feeding time in the same spot and poop after the evening feeding daily. My wife has nicknamed the rubble pile "Blue's toilet". he only visits the pile then. Its not even close to his bolt hole and his sleeping hole in the rock-work. It has a clear Line of sight to his bolt hole. I think that's why he likes it.

interesting read
I have not heard of this yet until now
guess my minds made up on getting a singular tomini bristle tooth lol

Mine does also

Mine does also

Just adding to this dataset: my Kole Tang does the exact same thing. In fact, he seems to detect when my Foxface is about to poo, and follows him around. It kind of bugs the Foxface.

Same with mine on both counts. In the morning, they both hang out near where my wrasses sleep and compete to see who gets the first wrasse poop of the day. :D
