My Latest Pics

Yo Aaron u make me sick those pictures are insane lol. How do I do it I want to know every exif detail on those shots. Was then flash used what shutter speed and aperture dude you're a master

Thanks Franky, if you click on the image Flickr will display the exif data for you for each image. They've given it an overhaul so the layout has changed, click on the three dots bottom right and it should open up a menu where you can select see exif data.

Aaron your pics leave me speechless! I just love how you eliminate any distractions in your photos and the subject just POPS!

The shrimp in the first pic in post #4. That guy has little X's on its eyeball. Just like a dead cartoon character! LOL

Very nice are you editing these pictures after you take them or are these the original shots?

If you are using some software what do you use?

These are all fantastic shots! Aaron, do you usually keep the flash at an angle like that? I may have to crack out my flash and give this a try.

Thank you.

Yes, ideally I'd like it pointing straight down but it means being very close to the water.

Thanks, yes I user Aperture and Lightroom.

Cheers, it's incredible the detail the naked eye misses, the X's are something I've never noticed before.

You and jroovers are taking some of the best aquarium photography out there these days! Really top-shelf work man.

I've been playing with the off-shoe flash for the firs time and I'm really interested in learning more. So, I have a very similar set up to you-- D600, nik 105mm and sb600. I don't know about you, but I have to shoot in manual and keep my shutter over 1/400 so I don't pick up the on-body flash. What I haven't figured out -- and you clearly have -- is intensity of the flash and focal range. I've had decent luck shoot the flash at 14 mm (basically with the diffuser on) at -2.0 power, shooting in RAW with WB preset to around 3200k. Any of that seem close to what you're using? I tried accessing the data on flickr, but I'm having trouble with it.

Any further advice you can give would be awesome!

Excellent shots.
Thanks for sharing, love how crisp all the shots are especially the shrimp ones.
Assume you're using the camera built in flash as commander? Any tips on avoiding flash reflections from it?

I pretty much shoot at 1/500 with f29-32. I keep the ISO pretty low. Flash is set to 28mm, TTL and a wide beam. I've not really fiddled with it that much as out of the box it's done the job I wanted really. I know Flickr has changed it's layout, you should be able to access the data by clicking on the 3 dots (bottom right) and a pop up menu should appear. You can access data from there.

Not sure which camera you're using, mine gives the option to turn the power down when using it as a commander so it looks like - - on the menu screen. There's no reflection when using it this low.
