My Leemar 90 Build.

Well it has been a couple of days since I was able to work on the stand.

Here is what has happened:

I have 3 of the sides laminated on the inside. (Left, Right, and Back) I had to order more of the Nevemar Bone White Laminate. I get it today!

So I started working on the edge banding of each door opening.

I got all of the pieces cut.

Then I started laminating the edges of the door openings. I did the right side first.

Once the edes were laminated, I routed, filed, and sanded the edges to flush.

Then, I laminated the right side, routed out the opening and edges, and cleaned it up.

Here are some pics of the progress:

This is a closeup pic of the inside of the right door opening:

This pic shows the whole right side:

And last of all, a pic from the inside of the stand showing the transition from white to black:

Some things to note:
1. The inside corners are not real tight as far as the laminate goes. This is because I will be caulking the inside corners and also because I am laminating after assembly and you have to have room to maneuver the sheet inside while there is contact cement. Once the 2 sides touch, you are unable to move the sheets.
2. Remember, this is just the inside surface of the stand.... It will have a wood cabinet around the outside.
3. The purpose of the white laminate: a durable and cleanable surface inside the stand.
4. The purpose of the black laminate: I want a 1/2" reveal of black around the door openings for the door to rest against. This will basically shut out all light from the inside of the stand.

Tonight I hope to get the left side of the stand completed. Time permitting!

Well, I am the proud owner of an APEX Controller now!

Many thanks to 150er and Nvite - (Daniel)

Thanks for your patience guys!

Now, I just need to learn how to use it!

I am going to work on the stand this weekend.

I am hoping my white laminate comes in.... It came in on Wednesday horribly damaged. Not a useable piece in it.... Comes in as a 4 x 8 foot piece rolled up into a 12" diameter. A hole was punched through and through at about the 24" mark.....

Well, I hope it get's here!

Well this weekend was certainly a successful weekend as far as the stand goes.

1. Got almost all of it laminated. (Only one side left)
2. Got the pad feet installed (will still need to be shimmed as we have a rough slate floor)
3. got the top on (1/2" plywood with 1/2" foam)

Stuff I still need to do:
1. Clean it!
2. Caulk it.
3. Intall a laminated mounting board for equipment
4. Drill holes in it for venting and fans.

So, below are some pictures with the last picture being kind of a teaser where it will be placed in the house.

Picture #1 - Last side to be laminated!

Picture #2 - A view into the inside.... The stand is DIRTY!

Picture #3 - Another view to the inside showing the ceiling of the stand. I want all surfaces to be laminated.... There is a vent near the back that will also serve as a wire chase.... This will make more sense as you see the pics.

Picture #4 - A view of the top surface of the stand showing the plywood and foam.

Picture #6 - Last for today..... A teaser of where the tank will be placed.

Ultimately, the stand will be wrapped to closely emulate the wood furniture that you see in the pictures.

I am getting close to setting and leveling so that I can go on to the plumbing portion! I can hardly wait!

Things are looking great! You've got great wood working skills. Can't wait to see the finished product!

Great job on the base -- very professional looking -- I'd be proud.

"3. got the top on (1/2" plywood with 1/2" foam)"

Please tell me about the foam where you got it. Thanks, I am enjoying the follow along.

Aleonn - Thanks, I can hardly wait to start the plumbing.

Esardog - Thanks, I am pleased so far. The foam came from Lowes. It is in the insulation Aisle and comes in lots of thicknesses. I got 1/2" (the thinnest one.) it comes in sheets that are 4' x 8'. Only $6.95.

Beanmachine - So close yet so far.......

Well today has been good.

I got a lot of things done.

Laminate - Done.
Holes for Fans - Done.
Holes for Wires - Done.
Plumbing for the overflow - Assembled and painted.

Tomorrow:
Caulk the inside of the stand.
Install the fans.
Install the Apex.
Set the Tank on the stand.
Install the plumbing.

Here are some Pictures......

Back of the stand.
The smaller holes are where the wires will come in and out of the stand.
The grey conduit is just there as a wire chase and organizer. (Can't stand messy wires)

Here is a pic of the inside of the stand.
Remember, it is not caulked yet.....
The larger holes are for the fans.
I think I am going to put the two at the top bringing fresh air in.
The two at the bottom will send air out of the stand.
I know I know..... Heat rises.... why not reverse? I think it will be more beneficial for the reef to get fresh air from the window...... Your thoughts?

Here is a pic of the manifold glued together.

Last of all, the manifold is painted.

So, tomorrow should see some real tasks getting done......

As for tonight..... It's party time with the real Christygirl!

Any reason why you are putting it right in front of the window? It's gonna be a lot of yellow light and an increase in temp.

King. The back will be painted black. It is also the only wall I have left where I can put it. I think it will be ok and I like the idea of being able to open the window for fresh air. Plus, it is a north exposure so not to hot.

Fans are installed.....

Apex is mounted....

The inside of the stand is caulked and sealed.....

Started cutting rock in half for the back of the tank.....

Tomorrow should be foam for the sump and chiller.... Then the installation of the sump, chiller, and maybe plumbing.....

Does anyone know if this mounting arrangement is OK? I did not want to mount the apex to the side of the EB8, because I am going to get an additional EB8 for some more functionality. I want to put it to the side of the first EB8. So, I am hoping it is OK to place so close and below. It is off to the side to leave space for the USB ports that are on the left bottom edge of the EB8.

Your thoughts or suggestions are very welcome because I have no experience with an APEX.

Thanks.....

Holy Crap..... There has been a tank sighting at Christygirl's house.
Sump in!
Chiller in!
Plumbing manifold in!
Plumbing return still under construction.
All wires need to be run in a clean and organized fashion.....

I need dry rock!
Got the pond foam (actually have that on hand all of the time because of our pond)

There has also been some eggcrate work!
