My little Black Clown!

Since we got our pretty little clown and her host, I've been waiting for her to heal up and be ready to show off. Surprisingly we've had a great success with her.
She came to us beaten up and blind in one eye, she's probably permanently blind in that eye, sadly. But she's doing better now that she knows her home tank, and her personality is amazing.
I always read on here about how people love their clowns and cute personalities but I never realized just how amazing it could be. She's hosted by a little Sebae (Maybe Malu, I'm not great at ID'ing yet, but one day!) and she bounces on it like a trampoline, it's too cute! :bounce1:

Sorry for the bad pictures (And the sideways one, it's not really sideways, just uploaded that way for some reason...) and the glass scratches, it's our private tank and not our show/display tank.

Here's a good little macro of the anemone if anyone wants to confirm the Sebae/Malu debate. He's fully inflated, and white with bluish/purple(With Actinic) tips, and he's grown since we got him.

How did you know it was blind? Just curious

The one eye not shown is pure white and she keeps bumping into rocks on that side. I don't have a picture of the white eye, and probably never will cause she always turns to the other side to see me when I approach the tank.

Just discovered she's a Saddleback! Cools, and we just bought her an Ocellaris mate... I'm thinking they may be okay together, but anybody else can confirm this mix?

Mixing diff species of clowns is always risky, most likely they wont get along but there is always a chance that they will, just be prepaired to remove one if they dont get along

Okie Dokie, she seems pretty good, i got him in a plastic breeder basket for now, figured I didn't want her going all out on him since he's so much smaller than her. Hopefully they'll be good.

Yes, mixing Clown species is a bit risky, but definitely possible! Plus if a Maroon can tolerate a Occy to hybridize with each other, I'm sure your two Clowns can too.

Your female Saddleback clown will get much, much bigger than the male Ocellaris. She can really be abusive also, especially in mix species pair, all the cues on submissive is not alway correct (as the female sees it). Really be prepair to take him out if it looks like he may be kill.

Even in Percula/Ocellaris pairing, the males often get beat up pretty bad, per my multible experiences, before they pair up.

Alright. Well we have another tank setup and ready (Established for a while) than can hold the little occy until our big one is setup incase she doesn't take to him, but so far so good. She takes a run at him, and then leaves him alone afterwards for the most part. Thanks everyone!

So our little man slipped out his breeder box during moonlight hours, and so far so darned good! Our female did her run at him, but no biting or general abusiveness, just running at him and sliding by as he wriggles. So, decided to leave him there, breeder box is still in incase he needs pulling, but fingers crossed, first meeting was good!

Edit; If she accepts him and everything's good, will he take to the Sebae just to be with her, or should we look into a mutual natural host that both will be happy with?

Cool! Clownfish pair behavior is fascinating to watch. What lighting do you have over your tank? That sebae nem looks bleached. Are you feeding it?

Bill, We're using a Dual T5 Coralife, and an LED Multi-Strip for support, with Dual T5 H/O Across from them. He's gaining some color, but not much, I don't think he'll change much more from the few months we've had him. Around his edges he's fairly transparent, but very healthy from every other aspect, yes he eats, he eats very well, Mysis, Brine, Plankton, Black clown feeds him flake food and he caught himself part of a coral that blew up when I turned on our new circ pump... That went well, he shrivelled up for a few days after that (Not deflated, just shrivelled.) and now he's fine again. I'm finding the most color coming in is the spots nearest his mouth, his outer tentacles are staying off white. *Shrug* All of our other corals that became bleached during transport are already colored in again, so I'm thinking he might stay more white...

Edit; By fairly transparent I mean his main body part, from my Avatar you can see what I mean, the dark spot on him just behind the clown, that's the rock he's perched against, you can see that his tentacles are white, but the main body is pretty well see through lol.

While I'm here, I might as well update about the clowns! The little guy was being hosted by his loving breeder box, and never really went far from there, so our girlie pretty much started ignoring him. So I took out the breeder box (Gasp!) and hopefully now he'll find something else to host him, like one of our corals, we have lots that I'm sure he'd like, we've got 3 kinds of xenia, a huge toadstool, frog spawn, GSP. I'm not sure if he'll take to the Sebae, but I'm holding out hope for the two to get along and live together happily.

Oh and tomorrow we get our Skimmer! So excited for it. I love adding new stuff to our little reef home!

Glad to hear the sebae is eating well. I had one almost exactly that color & was that size when I got it. Over the next 2 yrs the tentacles turned tan as it got more zooxanthellae & grew to the size of a dinner plate. it hurt me to my heart to sell my system & livestock before moving crosscountry.

Glad to hear it's eating well. It's tentacles will turn a tannish color as it produces more zooxanthellae. I had a sebae almost that color & size; when I sold my system 2 yrs later, it was the size of a dinner plate & tan w/ lavender tips. Good luck w/ yours & that clown pair!
