My liverock is turning orange??

Ah yeah my liverock is covered in 1000's of little wart shaped dots. They are a bright liver orange color. They appeared less than 2 weeks ago and they've multiplied exponentially. My first guess was sponges... but my pest doesn't fit any of the descriptions of common pest sponges that I'm finding on the Internet... no photos match what I'm looking for on the internet. My rockwork is covered in thousands of orange freckles and I have no idea what these things are? Any ideas on what they could be?? Do sponges crop up overnight and bunch together in clusters like freckles?? I don't want to try manually removing them, they may be toxic for all I know if I'm wrong about it being some type of sponge? No photo id, no touching it is my motto. I'll try to attach something when my WiFi issues allow me to provide you all with a photo.

If wipes away it could be diatoms or cyanobacteria, if it doesn't it could be coralline algae. Without a picture it's hard to say.

Does it look like this stuff? It has appeared on all surfaces that are exposed to light from above. Today I've started to knock it down manually with a brush and external filter. It comes off easily enough but...Yuk it's gonna take a while and I'll probably have to let the filter run all night. While stirring up what settles occasionally.

Edit; It does look like a cross between algae and sponge
