My male percula

I’ve had a mated pair of Perculas for almost a year now. In the past I have noticed that from time to time the female would attack the male but not big deal. Recently the attacks increased and the poor guy looks all banged up.

Right now they are the only fishes that in my tank. I was wondering if I should just separate them or maybe adding another fish to the tank would distract their attention and she would stop picking on him.

What do you think?

Just fighting for dominace. It should go away and they will live happily again.

If it gets excessive, like it has before in my experience, i'd separate them for a short period of time.

That's what I was thinking. How long do you usually separate them?

When you say "mated" that means they spawned some eggs already. If they haven't then they are just "paired". It seems they are not even paired yet because as you've said they still do the dominance dance. just my .02.

It sounds like you just got two clowns....mine were the same way but eventually they gave that up and now put up with each other.

I guess they are just paired then. I have had them for over 6 months and they get along really well but from time to time she starts picking on him for a few days.

Do you think introducing another fish in the tank would help?

i showed my wife this thread, and suggested that since we argue sometime, should introduce a third into our relationship--a girlfriend for me would do wonders.

guilt by association, she called us all idiots and went back to whatever she was doing...sorry...



do they have an anemone? do they get enough food? the better their environment, the nicer she'll be. many clowns continue to do the dominance dance even after they have paired/mated.

unless he's showing actual damage, i wouldn't segregate them.

keep a close eye tho...

Female may be maturing and establishing.
As long as smaller male isn't being torn to shreds I'd let them work it out.

I agree let them work it out. She could be ready to "mate" and is getting cranky. Unless she starts taking chunks and really hurting him let them work it out.
