My nano reef build of cubic dimensions :D

What time is it? Plumbing time!

For now the plan is to get the plumbing for the overflow to the sump completed. I will do the return once I figure out how I want to configure the manifold. Feel free to share pics of your manifold.

Off to Home Depot!

Manifold completed.

I made it out of 3/4" PVC. I got a little carried away with all the ports :D good thing I used gate valves. The water pressure coming out of this thing is wicked.

Finally finished the plumbing. I only had one leak, where I wast paying attention during gluing and glued it opposite of how I needed the fittings.

Dang that looks great Marvin!!

Thanks. My wife has been pushing me to get it completed. Lol

After the plumbing was done I started on the aquascaping. This is what I ended up with. Jgoal hooked me up with the beautiful table rock. I'm hoping a school of cardinals finds it as cozy abode.

I ended up "pegging" some of the rocks to get the shapes I wanted or to make them more stable.

Here's a pic to give you an idea. Ill cover the exposed rod with more rock or epoxy down the road. Check out my reptilian friend :) that's what happens when you take to long to aquascape. Lol.

I came in here thinking.. *** he's gonna put a swc 160 skimmer on a nano?!

tank looks great!

I'd be worried about having those rocks in the back like that. Gunna be a trap for detritus. Look into pulling them off the wall 6-8". My original rockscape was similar to urs, I had horrible nitrate and phosphate problems. After I moved all the rocks off the wall and cleaned out a ton of detritus, my phosphate and nitrates finally came down.

Something to think about

Wow Marvin. That's looking really nice! Especially that shelf piece! ;)

But really, it looks really cool in there. Glad it worked out.

Actually it was a super reef octo 6000 external. I came to my senses and the reality that it was going to be too much skimmer. I replaced that unit with the dc pump powered ATI 200i skimmer. On paper It's undersized for my tank volume. But I don't plan on immediately stocking the tank with a bunch of livestock. So far I like what I see. Say tuned for a full review on it.

Thanks for the info. Ill keep an eye on them.

It looks like he is going bare bottom. I think with adequate flow the stacked rocks in the back won't be a problem.

I've actually got sand now. The flow in my tank is ridiculous with the wavysea and vortech. Worst case scenario I blast the area with water to blow any built up detritus into the water column.

Looks awesome Marv. This will be an epic tank. I WISH I had the room for something like that. I'm truly jelous. That said, I'll make some comments about the scape. Please take these as constructive. I realize that scaping is a matter of personal preference, so please don't take my comments the wrong way. I think one of the most amazing things about your tank is how friggin DEEP it is. Its awesome. I think by placing those rocks along the back wall, you are negating that depth and causing the tank to look cramped. The detritus argument is a good one, but I'm going purely from an appearance standpont. I personally like more minimal scapes, so this is a personal preference of mine, but cubes really lend themselves to this because you can take advantage of that HUGE footprint. I like what you did with the center, and that shelf piece is awesome. I think moving those rocks off the back wall and concentrating them more in the center would really open things up.

There are a few cube aquascapes that I remembered off the top of my head that I personally like. I posted them below. I'M SORRY FOR PHOTO BOMBING YOUR THREAD, LOL! Hopefully it might serve as a bit of inspiration. If not, totally cool. Cant wait for more updates! Loving it so far!

You posted that pic as I was posting, LOL! Looks better from that angle. Although, what I wrote I still stand by, LOL! I officially LOVE that center island with the shelf. I'm stealing that idea ;)

I'm always open to constructive criticism.

That said I agree with you about the "rock wall". However you will also notice in all the tanks you posted, they are 3 sides. My tank being in a corner with two viewable sides does not lend itself to being an easy tank to perform simple things like scraping algae. If I could set it up as a peninsula, I would have an entirely different scape. So the rock wall came out of my reality of knowing I would not actively clean glass 3 to 4 feet away. The rock wall helps me avoid some of those challenges (at least in my mind). Just as I do not plan on placing any corals back there for the same reason. Now if you can show me a easy way to clean those hard to reach areas I might just change it up. I will say that I don't believe the photos do the rock work justice.

By the way, I don't have room for this tank either. Lol which is why it's in a corner :) one day ill post my wife's response to seeing the tank if I haven't already.

Thanks again for the comments, and inspiring photos.

This is one of the aquascapes I also used for inspiration.

Marvin, that looks great. What do you have for flow just the vortex? What are you doing for lights?

Wavysea and one mp40 right now. I plan on adding a 2nd mp40 once I break down my tank. And may add another wavysea or sea swirl too.

That kind of makes sense. You can't use one of those telescopic scrapers (Kent proscraper II) to reach back there? That said, I have the sneaking suspicion that the pics don't do it justice, because the last one you posted looks good. I think the other thing about the wall that is slightly distracting is that it is too uniform. It lacks some dynamics if you follow me. Maybe if you had some smaller shelf pieces interspersed or broke some of those pieces up it might break up the "checker board" look. Again, trying to be constructive. Please don't take offense ;)
