I have the same tank when my compact was ready to be changed I replace the bulb with 42 3 watt LEDs. Makes a great tank even better. Just something to think about when you need to replace the bulb.

OK here a few new pic's with the hermits and snails. Also the Zoa.

Well the CUC are doing there work. About 3/4 the brown is gone. Ordered some corals today from Foster & Smith. They should be here on wednsday. Can't wait to see them in the tank. Going to get them settled in for about 3-4 before i decide what fish to get. Will post pic's when there in.

I would let the tank cycle a little more before adding too many coral/fish considering you still have a lot of brown diatoms from the starting cycle. It's hard to be patient being so excited but reef keeping is definatly a hobby of patience. Good luck, can't wait to see more pics

Got new corals in the tanks today.

What do you have running in the back of the tank ?

Skimmer? do you have any actinic lights in that hood ?

Im wondering if the birdnest is ok under the PC lighting? I have the PC as well and ive basically been told no SPS for me.

The lights are Half 10K/Half 7100K Actinic. Not running a skimmer yet. Looking at adding a hanging type since i dont want to lose my main chamber.

As for the Birdsnest i have seen others have one with the quad lights. Also as i say this some others might say its wrong but Foster & Smith Liveaquaria post this about the Birdsnest coral: The Orange Guttatus Birdsnest Coral will thrive in a variety of lighting conditions, ranging from compact fluorescents, VHO, T-5's up to the more intense metal halides.

As for the skimmer i'm looking at getting this one: AquaC Remora/Remora Pro Protein Skimmers

TY. I love feeding my Trumpet coral mytis shrimp. He really loves them. The birdsnest is doing real good too. He seems to like the area i put him in. The green polyp leather is something else. He closes up alot. Seems like everytime any snail or hermit gets near him, he closes up. Last time took 2 days for him to open back up. The zoa's and tea cup rock is doing good too. Looks like the tea cups like the shrimp too.

Great thread for me. My son gave me a jbj 28 gal nano cube LED for Christmas and in fourth week of cycling. Started out with 1" live sand, then 1 1/2" white fiji sand and dry Fiji rock. Add raw shrimp and a couple of pounds of live rock last week.

Now, Amonia near 0; Nitrite about 3.2; Nitrate about 50 and pH between 8 and 7.5.. Nothing live in the tank right now; my LFS said "Thank heavens, it'd be dead"

Will do a 5 gal water change later today.

Michelle, Yea took my take about 2 weeks for even the amonia to even show. I waited about a week after amonia to hit 0 before i did my first water change. Then it took 2 weeks for my nitrites and nitrates got get to 0. I think i did about 2-3 water changes during that 2-3 weeks. After that i waited 3 days before i even put mu cuc in there.

How many lbs of rock do you have in there?

Garetjax

Garetjax, I have about 25 lbs rock, 23 of fiji dry rock and a couple of pounds of live rock (just put in 1 week ago.) today ammonia at 0 but Nitrites and Nitrates are high.

My son recommended I get a Tunze 9200 skimmer with a modified cup from media baskets. It seems to me that I would have to replace the jbj media basket with this skimmer. It's the only place it will fit. Have any ideas on this?
