My new 400 G tank

Funny as I was just coming here to update. Here's an up date. I'm working on pics

Well I don't have any pics just yet but I took the time this weekend and moved everything from the 200G holding tank into the 400. Everyone seems fine and are likeing their new home. Even my Blue Hippo tang who was usually always hiding in the rocks is not more active and out swimming in the open. The Naso's seem to like it as well.

I haven't seen much of 3 of my wrasses though, the yellow, red corris and lepoard. I have seen them swimming some the first day but didn't see them at all yesterday. I'm sure they are fine in there somewhere.

I got the OM 4 way running on a baraccuda and the fish are learning to adjust to the flow since they haven't had that kind of flow in who know how long. You can tell when they move into the current as they get blown around a little. It's interesting looking from the end of the tank as the naso's come swimming towards you and then get hit by the current and get blown sideways some, even as big as they are.

I'm waiting for a mag cleaner that will work on the thick acrylic so I can clean it good and then I'll get some pic's up of the tank. I also set up the light mover on the tank with 2 X 400W DE MH bulbs. One is a 20K and is on the end with the most sunlight. You can hardly tell it's on other than the colors in the corals come out more. The other end has a 14K bulb on it and seems just fine. It does look really nice though at night after the sun goes down. Right now I have them set up 3' apart moving 3' on a 7' long tank. I may reduce that though to 2.5' of travel so that they don't go all the way to the ends of the tank.

Pic's to come soon.

On a side note, I picked up another 400 G system a few weeks back. It was in a bussiness that a friend of mine's wife works at. They just wanted to get rid of it but didn't know how to get it out of the wall. He talked to me and said if I could get it out, I could have it. So now I have a 8'L X 4'T X 2'D, 1 1/4" thick acrylic tank sitting in my garage once again. This one has a 4' X 7' viewing area with overflows built into each end. It was used as a see thru tank in a wall. The wife has decided she wants to keep it as well so it's going to go into the wall at the other end of the sun room and become a FOWLR only because it's soo deep and would be hard/expensive to light as a reef. Work will not start on it though until after i finish the cabintry around the current 400 G project. It shold make for a interesting room once done though, a 400G reef at one end and a 400G FOWLR at the other end of a 30' long room. :D

OK here we go. I've got some update pic's of the tank up and running. It's been going for about 2 months now. I'm now working on the wood cabinet to hide all the equipment.

For size wise, the leather is 12" across and the green pagoda is 9" acros and about 7 years old.

Thanks everyone. I wish I could tell how to pick the pinktails out from Male and Female as I'd love to have a pair of them in the tank. I've tried to get some good pic's of the fish but that's not an easy chore. However here's my current fish list.

Pair Naso Tangs ( Male & Female)
Pair Gold Stripped marron Clowns ( Male & Female who host in my RBTA)
Pair of Royal Grammas ( I think they laid eggs back in the rocks)
Pair Yellow Tangs ( Got them together, don't know if Male & Female but they hang together)
Blue Hippo Tang
Pink Tail Trigger
Coral Beauty Angel
Rusty Angel
Female Bellus Angel ( Looking for a Male)
Moorish Idol
Red Corris Wrasse
Lepoard Wrasse
Yellow Wrasse
Yellow Triangle Wrasse ( Don't really know the name of it)
carpenters Flasher Wrasse
Leaf Bleney

I also have 3 large Serpent starfish, Green, Black and a tigger stripped. The smallest, black one, has a body the size of a silver dollar. The other two are even bigger.

The tank is filled mainly with plateing type coral frags right now so I'm just waiting for them to grow out. Most of them are Monti Caps with a few other types in there as well. The bubble coral's, pagoda and leather were moved into this tank because they outgrew my other tank. They have been with me for a long time with the green bubble being the oldest at 8+ years right now. We beleive he spawned in my 45G hex several yeasr age as that was the only thing we could figure out when that tank had a bad experience. Lost some really old fish in that tank because of it. The Naso's and trigger are going on 5 years now that I know of. I've had them for 2 and got them from a fellow reefer who had them for at least 3 years.

Hey Chevy, very nice school of fish you have there. The Idol's dorsal doesen't look bad either. I'm impressed. Corals look good too. Don't tell too many people about the benefits of NSW. They won't believe you anyway.
I have been on a gobi kick and my tank is filled with them. No where near as colorful as "real" fish but I go for wierd.
Good luck, great looking tank.
Now I am going to thank a Veteran.
Paul

Hey paul, you found me. :D

Been working some long hours lately and so haven't really been loking at the tank. 80 hours last week. Got home late Sunday and went to look at the tank and make sure everything was OK. Idol is still looking good and he's got a streamer now. He's still eating well but still hasn't bothered any of the sponges I have growing in the tank.

dc, Thanks. It should look really good once the redish orange and the neon green monti caps grow in on that side. The fish seem to like it and swim in and out of it all the time. I made it fairly open underneath as I have a return from my C/L under there.

OH and Paul, Thanks. ;)

The Male is about 12" not counting his streamers. The female is around 10".

As I stated in the post, the leather is 12" and the pagoda is 9" or best I can tell by holding a tape measure up to the front of the tank and eyeballing it.

Just to reacp:

Tank measures 7' Long X 2.5' Wide X 3' Tall.

Well I just added another fish to the system. I'm waiting for him to get over his shyness so I can get a good picture of him. He's a beautifully colored Majestic Angel. So far he's doing great and hasn't bothered any of my corals. I'm starting to see him eat now and he's coming out of the rocks more and more each day.

As for teh Idol, he's doing great. His streamer has grown to about 4" in lenght. And yesterday I saw him start to eat some of the sponge I have growing in the tank. So maybe he'll be OK in there. He is a pig however and eat's anything I put in the tank. Also he's always out in the open swimming and hangs out with my Male Naso a lot.

Chevy, OK this is not about fish. We just got a new contract and I can retire in about 28 weeks. This is almost the happiest day of my life. Now I have to get plastic surgery to make my face bigger to fit my smile.
Besides that I am very glad your Idol is growing his streamer. It is amazing how fast they can grow.
Take care.
Paul

Hijacking MY THREAD! :D

Glad to hear your that much closer to retirment. I know you've been looking forward to that a lot. Now you'll have time to be a real Sailor. ;) I don't know if plastic surgery will work on you. Might wind up looking like the Joker in the Batman movie. :D

I am amased at how fast his streamer has grown. No one seems to bother him any so it just keeps growing. I made up some food for my fish, bananas, alvacados, broccili tops, squid, octopus, clams, vita-chem vitamins, cyclopseze and plankton. Chopped it up real good in the blender. Idol seems to like it a lot. I also have seen him go to town on some of the purple sponge I have growing in the tank. But now he has some competition as I've also seen my new Majestic Angel going after the sponge as well. Good thing I don't like that sponge and I also have plenty of it in my sump.

So does retirment mean your moving out on the island? Getting a bigger tank? Spending moer time in Fiji diving with Idols? Have fun and see you around.

All of the above.
I only have 28 weeks left and If I try hard enough I can spend almost half of that unimployed.
Take care.
Almost retired guy.
:bum:

How about a few pics of the majestic angel? And update pics of the tank? I like your tank, it's awesome.

You've done a real good job.
