My new 400 G tank

Hey Paul.

So are you retired yet?

I changed the name because I have sold the Blown 63 Chevy I had. Figured it didn't fit anymore and so the Loungers got me a new name.

I'm picking up a new project this weekend though. A hardtail chopper. I must be getting senile though to think an old man like me can handle a hardtail. :D Should be fun.

My Idol is still doing great. He eats just about everything I feed him. One thing I noticed though is that he is particular at which songes he eats. I have several different varaites of sponges groing in my tank and there's only certian ones he's eaten. The others he doesn't even bother looking at let alone eat.

So hows the goby breeding project going?

Take care.

Chevy....er I mean Shellback, I am retiring in 6 days but who's counting? Oh I guess I am. They are throwing me a big party on wednesday and my last day of work is thursday.
On friday I have to go to school for a few days to upgrade my Captain's lisense and I started a new business to keep me busy in between boat charters. I am an owner's rep. Which means I will work for the owner of a home or business to keep the general contractor in check. I look out for the owner's welfare on construction projects, mostly small ones like kitchens and dormers.
As you know, this is a very busy time of the year, I don't know how to do all these things and have a job. Thank God, thats almost over, the job thing. 37 years in construction is enough.
Christmas week I do the Santa Claus thing which I love and dread at the same time. I love the looks and the excitement from the healthy kids, but it takes a lot out of you when you see the very ill kids.

I am glad to hear about your Idol. They are still my favorite fish and I can't wait to dive with them again. My tank is loaded with gobies but I think they need an aphrodisiac. The only thing spawning is pipefish and bangai cardinals. I have about 15 gobies but of course most of them are a different breed. They are all unusual and most of them I have never seen before. I order them specially and I don't think even the wholesaler knows what to call them. They have names like stripped gobi, spotted gobi, orange gobi. etc. It's hard to get a pair of these things, it's hard enough to get one. I also have a bunch of bleenies along with the staples, hippo's, fire clown, that sort of thing. I never had so many fish at the same time, good thing they are small.
Your tank looks really beautiful and healthy, you should be very proud. I am sure that Idol will live many happy years.
It is very cold here now and snowing a little, how is sunny California?
Have a great day.
Paul

I was quite confused seeing all of these tank photos by Crusty Old Shellback and none from Blown. LOL

How have you been?

Been doing good. How about you?

I did a name change because I sold the '63. Still got the blown motor though but am trying to sell it as well. Downsizing some of the toys so I can start over. :D

I should be updating this with some pictures tonight so that everyone can see how far along I've gotten. Got a lot of the woodwork done now and it's almost complete. Just a few more panels to clearcoat.

Been adding a few fish here and there and wife says it's time to start working on the corals. Everything is doing fine but I need some larger colonies to fill in the tank. Got my calicum reactor working and started dosing Kalckwasser in a drip system. Still tring to automate that part. I also need to lower my lights some to get better penetration down low.

It's a long and slow process but at least my fish seem happy and are doing good. I'm also going to start injecting Ozone again into my skimmer. Seemed to work good before so I need to get some new Ozone generators and start again.

So how's your tank doing? Anything new and interesting going on? Your daughter still looks cute. Your going to have your hands full as she continues to grow up. I know, mine turns 12 this year.

All is well. The tank is doing okay but after adding 4 vortechs I stirred something up because it got nasty in the tank for a few months.

We did have another little girl and so far she looks just like my 5 year old when she was an infant. Link here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v73/thrlride/?action=view&current=Picture-020_small.jpg

I fear the day when my girl gets to be close to a teenager. :) Congrats to you though!

I look forward to checking out current pics when you get them up.

OK at long last, some updated pic's. I did all of the woodworking myself so that's why it's taken a bit to update everything. I've still got to apply a finish to the end doors you se on the right. As you can see from when this thread was started, it's taken me a while to complete this project. But then again, I did everything myself, including building the room the tank is in.
Enjoy.

The tank.
