My new 400 G tank

The woodwork has come along very nicely.

The end piece is an access point, correct? It looks like a bar shelf, but there must be a reason why it doesn't match the rest of the stand's profile.

How is the temperature affecting the tank with all those windows? Are you relying on a chiller to keep it stable?

Very nice set up - very nice fish ;)

I love the pinktail trigger..... I have a pink tail on my short list at the moment....... do you find him peaceful? How is he with snails?

Thanks for the comments.

Mel,
you are correct about the end "bar". It was used to hide the plumbing from my OM 4 way that enters the end of the tank. There are some pictures of that plumbing somewhere else on this thread. But it does make a nice little "bar" to rest a drink on as you stare down the lenght of the tank, which I often do as it gives it a whole different perspective. Just hard to take a picture of.

So far, no really big heat issues. I've got a fan blowing across the top of the tank when the temp gets up to about 80 but the highest I've seen the temp has only been 82. No chiller on there. It dosen't get really hot out here though. 80 is a hot day for us unless the Santa Ana winds are blowing and then it gets hotter.

I have some of my plumbing outside so it cools down at night fairly quick. I'm going to also install a couple of vent fans behind the tank to help with any heat. Just haven't gotten there yet. AS for the windows, they all face south so yes, I get a lot of light on the tank which is nice.

Matt,
I love my pink tail. I got him with the tank and he's been great in there. I think he's pushing 4 years old now. He dosen't bother a thing once it's in the tank. If I drop snails in, then he thinks it's food and will try to eat them. So if I add in snails, I usually drop them in behind the rocks and all is good.

stunreefer,
That would be my Male Naso. They are both pushing about 5 years old now. His streamers are almost 3" long and he is about 13"long I'm guessing. The Toadstool that you see in some of the pics is 15" across as I measured it so you can use that as a refference measurment. He's an awsome fish and one of my all time favorites. Actually I think I have all of my all time favorite fish that I've always wanted since I got my first SW tank back in the 70's in this tank, Naso's, Coral Beauty Angel, Majestic Angle and Moorish Idol. I'm starting to like a few more that are in there now like the pink tail, gold flake angle and red corris wrasse. ;)

Thanks for the compliments. Yea woodworking is one of my other hobbies.

Well it seems that I've lost a couple of fish. My carpenters Flasher Wrasse, Red Flasher Wrasse and yellow Flanked Fairy Wrasse have gone M.I.A. Not for sure what happend to them.

I also lost my Potters Angel who got sucked into my C/L pump after the screen covering one of the intakes got broken when I had a little rock slide. I hadn't bothered with it much because the intake is behind a bunch of rocks and near the bottom. Needless to say, when my pump started making noise and I took it apart to find the dead fish and a fighting conch inside, I decided to fix it.

I wound up redoing the right side rock work since I had to tear that side down. The small island with the pagoda and RBTA was moved all the way to the corner now and there is a bigger caveren between the two rock formations. It looks better I think. I'm also looking at building a small island in the back left corner as I need to move the large frogspawn out of my 72 and into this tank. It's getting too big for the 72 and taking over the tank. I'll post some pictures when I get it all done.

OK here's an update on some of my fish. I've lost a couple of my wrasses, my yellow flanked jumped and my lepoard, carpenters and red flasher all disapeared.

My potters angle got sucked into a CL suction and something happened to my Coral beauty who wound up dying from something. Maybe old age?

Anyways. my other fish are doing great. My Idol is still growing along with my Majestic Angel and my Gold Flake Angel> My Naos's of course are still my pride and joy.

My plan for the tank has changed some as my Monti caps just aren't doing good in the tank. So I've moved all of my SPS out into my 72G and moved my LPS and leathers into the 400. I'm going to just keep LPS and leathers in this tank and see how that goes.

So here's a couple of recent pics of some of my fish.

My Gold flake is 4-5 inches long now.

Here's some updated pic's as of tonight. I moved everything from my 72G tank into the 400 as we are consolidating to one tank. I've also lowered the lights to about 5" off the water and I can tell the difference as the tank is brighter. Now I'll just have to wait for everything to grow in.

The only down side to report is that I think I've lost my Red Corris Wrasse. He was laying on the sand for a couple of days and is now MIA. He was one of my favorites as he had some beautiful colors that I couldn't capiture on the camera. He was about 8" long and I had him for about 6 years. I wonder if it was old age or not?

Anyways, on with the pics.

Full shot.

Crusty, everything looks fantastic.
Try taking pictures without the flash. They come out much better.
