My new 400 G tank

Thanks Paul,
Yea I've tried to cover up the flash as I don't know how to turn it off. Sometimes it works, sometimes it dosen't.

Hey I got a question since you've been at this a little longer than me, any idea how long a wrasse will live? I think mine was pushing about 6 years. I haven't seen him in a few days and the last time I saw him, he was just laying on the sand in the same spot which is unusual for him. He was breathing so I just left him alone.

Crusty, there are many types of wrasse. The larger ones like most fish will live well over 12 years, I am sure a few types will reach 20.
Even blue devels live over 12 years as I had had them that long.
The only really short lived fish are in the seahorse family like pipefish.

Thanks Paul.

This was my Red Corris Wrase that i'm missing. Maybe he was just a little spooked with the new additions to the tank. Everyone else is doing fine. The Idol is going on his 2nd year in the tank and is still doing great.

Thats great for an Idol.
Those red coris wrasses disappear for weeks at a time sometimes forever.
I am going collecting tomorrow, maybe I will pick up a bunch of lookdowns. You could have them but it is a long drive.
They get too big for me.
Paul

Ray

how long have you had the blue Gorgonian? what do you feed it? how often?

my lfs has them and they told me they always die within a few months at most.

glad to hear the idol is still going strong. what do you feed it?

Hey carl,
I picked up the blue gorg a month ago now. I haven't fed it anything. All I ever feed is the fish. The Gorg is still doing fine. I do occasionaly see my Idol nip at it but no damage yet.

As for the demise of my red coris, he is still MIA and I'm afraid gone. No carcas left as edivence though. Nothing outside the tank either. :(

OH sorry, I missed that one.

He eats what the rest of the fish eat, pellets. I buy a large variety of different kinds of pellets and mix them all up in a large container and feed from that. I usually get Formula one and two, Spectrum, alage, shrimp, color enhancers, and what ever else is on sale. I also get them in all three sizes, small , medimum and large. I'll usually drop about 100 bucks at Dr. Fosters & Smiths on the food.

So far, no probelms with any of my fish and you know how big they are. I also feed a large sheet of nori each day and the Idol eats that as well. I get the sushi roll ones from the Asian market because it's easier and cheaper since I feed so much of it.

So does that answer your questions? :D

I've tried frozen food in the past but the large fish I got with the tank wouldn't eat much of it and it would just go in the overflow. If I thawed it out really good where it would sink, then they would eat it. Too much work. I do honestly beleive that they are conditioned to eat sinking pellets because that's about all they have been fed for what, the last 6 or 7 years?

Hey Trigger. You seem like a nice guy. I'll give you a treat of a lifetime. Somewhere in this old thread (link) is a picture of Marc sitting on a moped looking dapper as ever. You can tell him what a stud he is when he gets in. (in inches if you like) LMAO

The link isn't working.:p

wow i love the idea of creating a shelf for your clam with another clam shell. Do you have any problems keeping it on there? Min moves when it would snap just periodically. Do they root themselves down and plant their foot on the shell?

WOW! Who dug up this old thread? :)

Updates? Not too much to update. I've been having a problem keeping corals in the tank and haven't figured it out yet. Fish however are doing great. The only corals I have been able to keep are the two old bubbles and my large toadstool. I've also got to large RBTA's going in the tank.

I had tore down my 72G tank and moved everything into the 400. Fish mad eit OK but my corals did not. He!!, I can't even get coraline alage to grow right now in this tank. I do however think that my green bubble spawned again in this tank. I didn't loose anything this time however but it was scarry. He did it once before in my 45 I ha dhim in and I lost all of my fish when that happened.

As for the clam, he's gone, but yes he did attach to the shell I had him on. Didn't move around any at all.

I'v lost my red corris wrasse and my Copper Banded Butterfly. I have no idea where they went as one day, I noticed that I didn't see them anymore and haven't found a body or anything. Nothing outside of the tank either. I was sad as I had raise dthe wrasse from a 2" juniville to a 7" adult with beautiful colors. He was about 4 years old when he disapeared. As for the CBB, I had a pair for about a year and his friend got stung by a rabbit fish and died. However he seemed fine and was a beautiful part of the tank for about 4 years. Then one day, he's gone too.

Right now, I'm kind of in cruse mode. Just keeping the tank clean and the fish alive and healthy. Got a lot of other projects going on right now. I'm slowly working on the tank and trying to dial things in and see if I can start keeping corals in it again. Funny thing is, i started a 20G nano and it's doing great. Even when I had my 72 it was great and I could grow all kind sof corals in it. So I know it's not me or the water as I use NSW in both tanks. Just got to do some invistigating to find the problem.

The mocking of me is a freebie.
Instead of making everyone dig through and look for the picture in that thread I'll post the picture here. :p :p

Yep, he's doing just fine at over 3 years in the tank now. There are some updated pic's in the moorish Idol thread. It's in the fish forum I beleive.

I'm going to take some water samples and send them out for analysis and see if that tells me anything. I thougt about what you said about the rock. Don't know if that is the problem or not. If I remember right, I used some of that rock in my other tank and all was fine in it. I'd hate to try and replace that much rock.
