My new 420 tank

Well, I got the other overflows teeth cut and the top is halfway glued. Going to let it cure a bit because I need to turn the tank to glue the other half.

Everything was rough cut with a table saw then I went over all of the edges with a router with a spiral bit.

looking real good.glad you decided on the 48" front to back thats going to be nice!i need to order my acrylic soon so i can get mine going.
did you have to buy a little more acrylic then you originally planned on in order to make it 48"?

No I didnt have to buy more acrylic for the tank. I just had to get some more for the overflow boxes. They were going to be made from the scrap, but I didnt have enough scrap to do much of anything with.

The top is glued and the bottom is halfway glued. I figured out when I was putting the top on that my little work table has low spots in it so I had to prop up the spots with small wooden shims and screwdrivers (that is what you see in the picture). I am going to try and get up early in the morning and spin the tank around so I can glue the other half of the bottom before I travel. If not, it will have to wait until Friday when I get home. This is how the tank sits as of now. I still will need to glue on the overflows and then run a flush bit over all the edges on the tank.

Looking at this picture, the tank doesnt really look that big. I think once it is in the wall it wont look real big until you actually look inside of it. The tank is starting to get heavy now, but I can only imagine what it would weigh if it were glass.

Thanks! It is far from done, but it is starting to resemble a tank.

The acrylic came from Calsak Plastics here locally.

Hey, Just found your thread today ! Wow it is looking good. Sorry I missed you at the last club meeting. Let me know if you need help anytime. Even if you dont need the help just call me anyway. I really want to watch the master at work. :)
I have a few frags for you still if you still have a reef tank up. I am not sure if you do or not.

Chris-Yea, I have missed the last few meetings. I dont have a reef tank set up right now but thanks for the offer.

Well, I didnt get the bottom finished up like I was wanting. I will try and get it done Friday evening after I get home. If that is the case, maybe I can get the edges trimmed and get the overflows put on.

Finally got home late last night and tonight I got the tank turned around and finished glueing up the bottom. Gotta start getting the edges flush trimmed and then I am going to try and get some water in it to do a little testing. No real new pictures, just on with the clamps still attached.

Brett, that looks awesome! I'm glad that you finnaly took the plunge with a big tank...it is going to be so cool!

Hopefully soon. I still havent got all the edges trimmed yet. I am out of town again. I got the biggest part of the garage cleaned out (a big task) and when I get home I am going to try and finish her up. I hope to get it down on the floor (on some foam sheets of corse) and do some water testing then. The glue should be more than cured by then.
