I have thousands of snails in my display and not one speck of algal growth. You have to make sure you are buying captive reef appropriate snails though, or they can cause more problems than they are worth!
I'd also like to hear your recomendations, I've only got 10 turbos in the tank right now and was thinking about getting a cleanup crew next week.

Try reef topia.com.They capture all there animals from the ocean off the Florida coast.Very nice lady.I would get differant types ,serith, nesarius are good .You may not want to many hermits since they kill each other and snails.A good clean up crew will take care of your tank.Your tank is very big so they will get lost in there.I don't know how much you want to spend either.Reef topia is pretty cheap.

Thanks Shawn! You guys that want to learn about sustainable cleanup crews etc. would do well to spend some time on the DIBS site. Most of what is sold in the hobby is not good for captive systems.

What I look for are true warm water species that will propagate within the system, not get too large, not predatory, and be able to get up when they fall down. We now have solid evidence that the DIBS Turbo sp. and the columbellids will propagate in a reef system even when aggressive skimming is utilized.

Excellent! I have always wondered why we continue to replace our dead snails with more dead snails...Propagate propagate propagate!

Here is a poor quality video I shot tonight while feeding the tank. From the looks of it, you would think that they haven't eaten for a week......

VERY COOL!

Looks like you have some nice flow! Can't wait to see this tank someday soon

What do you feed those piggies?

I added some inverts to the 10 Turbo snail & 5 Cleaner shrimp that were already in the tank. Yesterday added 100 Astrea turbo snails, 50 Nassaurius snails, 5 Queen Conch, 100 Scarlet Reef hermit crabs, 100 Dwarf Blue Leg hermit crabs, 5 Emerald crabs, and 5 Peppermint shrimp.

More flow than I ever expected. I have to turn off 3 of the pumps when I feed the tank just to give the fish a chance at the food. I bought two Tunzie Turbelle 6000's with a couple of wavy seas for movement. They are still in their boxes and will probably put them up for sale.
I have been feeding a little bit of everything. Live brine shrimp and live marine feeder shrimp. Frozen I am using mysis and plankton, and emerald entree. Flake I am using Omega One, Ocean Nutrition Formula 1& 2, Prime Reef, and Brine Shrimp Plus. All of this with a lot of nori. I tried pellets with the pumps running and it looked like a shotgun blast.....

I'm having an open house after the meeting Sat, let me know if you can make it.

do the sailfans school together?
Not really. Not like the Yellow tangs and Blue Hippos. Powder Blues stay on opposite ends of the tank.
