MY Australian acans

MY Australian acans

Here are a couple images of my Aussie acans I got last week. The one is a little out of focus, but the colours can still be appreciated.

Thanks Goodwin9, Actually, I took those pics today, but actualy the tank isnt looking as good as it normally does. I changed 2 of my six metal halides fro 20000k to 10000k and now I have a cyanobacteria issue under those lamps. Its like a big red stripe down the middle of the tank. It hasnt affected my corals at all, but its a sign of dropping water quality in my opinion. I checked my ro/di unit, and my filters are all exausted, so my top off water has been high in nutrients. I got new filters yesterday, should be back to normal in a few days. However, like I said, it doesnt seem to be affecting my livestock.

Cougarman- You cant post pics like that without some pics of your equipment and full tank shoots.hhahah.OMG.. Sweet...

Cougarman: Now you are asking for it! Look at all those fish!! That's not a sand-bed, that's a turd bed. j/k

cougarman, you must make frequent trips to wal-mart buying toilet bowl cleaner or hang on freshener for all those fishes

OK Jonathan....based upon your suggestion, I bought some KIZAMI Nori. WOW...just $38.25 per pound. Now I know the fish eat better than I do. I think that I may have been KIZAMMED, looks like they ran sheets of Nori through a paper shredder to me.......... I sure hope the fish enjoy it, cause I am going to have to eat Mac & cheeze tonight........

Wait to you see how they respond to it though. May take a day but you will see what I mean. Soak it in some vitamins to boost your fish immune system. Then release it into the tank slowly.

I notice that you put your hands in the tank a lot, and perhaps are used to doing that for feeding. I would suggest that you use a bowl instead. Making it a habit of only putting your hands in when absolutely neccessary because the oils from our skin actually coat stuff in the system, most notably the skimmer riser.

Also, you will have some fish that are more agressive, and like in my case, my foxface practically jumps into the bowl, and I wouldn't want to get poisoned by the damn thing! :D

lol it's funning watching your cam when your their looking at it. the fish all follow you around. and that is a lot of nori, but prob. won't last long in your tanks.

about your ammonia, nitrites, and nitrate problems. i have come up with a couple ideas but there are more ways also.

1. get a 100 gal. rubbermaid tub like this which can be found at like tractor depot or something. plumb that to your tank and add sand and LR to help boast up your bacteria.

2. not to familuar with the sand filters but can also try adding another 600 gal. filter like what you already have and see if that helps lower them.

option #1 will help the most as it will lower all 3 where as just the sand filter will lower the ammonia and nitrites from what i read but not help much with the nitrates. but something should be done for the health of the fish in the long term IMO.

Cougarman - thanks for letting me view the tank it is awesome. i watched it for almost an hour that day till the wife told me to get some work done:D . did you bild the tank yourself? I am planning on building a plywood tank myself when we get our own house. do you have a thread or pic.s of the build or such?

I use about one of those jars for about 2 weeks, but I don't have anywhere near the fish he has. :)

Can you let us all know when you are going to feed it, so we can all watch???

i will try some kizame nori too, how long will that last you think Chuck? did you get anything for yourself besides leftover mac/cheese :D ? who will care for the fish when your're sick?
