I can last for months on Mac & Cheese...at least I could...at this age, it might do something regrettable to my system though!

Maybe I could make it, (Mac & cheese), a little different tonight by adding a little KIZAMI on the top??????

you said you're disable, so sippy cup will do

I was at a local sushi bar with my family and I ordered a sashimi bowl. It was garnished with that exact shredded nori, and my son said, "Hey Dad, you're eating fish food!" <snicker...snicker>

We should have an online party for your first nori feeding! We can all watch it and see what happens. :)

lol it's funning watching your cam when your their looking at it. the fish all follow you around. and that is a lot of nori, but prob. won't last long in your tanks.

about your ammonia, nitrites, and nitrate problems. i have come up with a couple ideas but there are more ways also.

1. get a 100 gal. rubbermaid tub like this which can be found at like tractor depot or something. plumb that to your tank and add sand and LR to help boast up your bacteria.

2. not to familuar with the sand filters but can also try adding another 600 gal. filter like what you already have and see if that helps lower them.

option #1 will help the most as it will lower all 3 where as just the sand filter will lower the ammonia and nitrites from what i read but not help much with the nitrates. but something should be done for the health of the fish in the long term IMO.

Cougarman - thanks for letting me view the tank it is awesome. i watched it for almost an hour that day till the wife told me to get some work done:D . did you bild the tank yourself? I am planning on building a plywood tank myself when we get our own house. do you have a thread or pic.s of the build or such?
Sam..I am curious on how I would plumb the tank into the system? I do have two of the FB600 sand filters on the system now. They are rated up to 600 gallons each.

Like I said before, I would change out the sand media on a much more frequent basis than what they recommend. That is your current path of least resistance in terms of getting your nutrient levels down (plus water changes of course).

In fact, if I was using sand filters like that, I would swap out 1/3 any time my nutrients got above ideal. Also, did you report the numbers for your water change water? I can't remember. That can be crucial to your tank's health. You want to ONLY make water with RO/DI that is at zero TDS (flame away retards  ), zero PO4, 400+ ppm Ca, 1400+ppm mg, 8 - 9 dKh alk, plus trace elements.

Also, in SD there are a lot of alternatives to Rubbermaid that IMO are better. Rubbermaid stock tanks are tough for sure, but the are more difficult to adapt to common PVC sizes, bulkheads etc. and they have not much flat space to drill holes and get the bulkhead to seat properly.

I got these at a feed supply house a ways out-of-town, and while they are not as robust as the Rubbermaids, they have a lot of nice surface for BH mounting, fit in the space well, have a common sized drain, and are less expensive.

i will try and draw up a design with how to plumb it to your tank and post it later.

how long has the 2nd filter been hooked up? if recently have you noticed any change in your testing? BTW glad you are doing what you can to help out your tanks I can tell everytime i see you in person and on the cam how much you love your babies :D good job.

Both have been there since day 1. I did add a bottle (1/2 the capicity for) one of the sand filters that had apparently blow it into the sump.

Jinarowe: Believe it or not, but the sand in my display tank is actually about 4 inchs deep. I'm actually about to add about 90lbs more of the sugar grain size sand, as I've noticed alot has dissolved or been swept away in the last year.

kau_cinta_ku: Yes I built the tank myself. I will post some pics of the back and sides and equipment when I get a chance. I was taking pics of my build, but I lost the memory card (or it got stolen) and I havent located it yet. It was my 1st build, and I definately made some mistakes on the build. I have plans for a new larger tank which I will refer to as "The Colossus" (LOL) Once I move to a larger house. Anyways enough about my tank, this thread is about Goodwin9s tank.

Goodwin9: I gotta get my hands on some of that nori aswell.

You don't suppose that Jonathan discovered another use for KIZAMI as a date drug????
