Goodwin,

Where did you get your Spotcheek Tang if you don't mind me asking.
The Spotted Cheeks tang came from the Diver's Den at LiveAquaria.com . Would like to get another if they ever become available again.

I need your guys help identifying this tang. he's about 3 inches long. I've had him for a month, but I still cant figure out what he is. He came in on an indo shipment. When he's not displaying, his anterior 1/3 is darker than the posterior 2/3. He has yellow pectoral fins. What do you guys think?

Its face make me think of the acanthrius family, yet its fins makes me think of a different family.

Definitely not a black tang though. Black tangs look like black yellow tangs.

ya its definately acanthurus. I've looked at all the pictures I can find, but nothing looks quite like it. I'm leaning towards a geographic morph of ringtail tang.

the yellow around the eye is peculiar too. A few species have yellow patterns around the eye (dussumieris, yellow mask) but not the same as this.

well i know it isn't a black tang, as stated a black tank is just a black version of the yellow tang.

It kinda looks like a powder brown tang all except for the black. maybe a juvi color of one?

I'd be excited if this is the correct fish. Only paid $35.
Nice find...I'll still take the Mustard first.... By the way, I was able to pick another one up locally. Great deal & price and NO shipping involved.....

Cougarman I think you found the right fish. I only see issues with the shape of the tail but it could be specific to the area.

I'm guessing female, males usually display streamers of some sort.

Ya it seems to be the closest match that I can find, but I'm still not 100% sold. Its only 3 inches long now, so tough to tell male from female at this point, but well see how it changes as it grows.

Goodwin9, good find. I'm jealous. I'm still hoping one day I'll walk into a LFS and there'll be a mustard tang waiting for me!

cool tang - where did you pick him up from?

I got him at Big Als in Oakville. I case their store every couple of weeks for odd fish. They import so many, that they usually get a few rare ones and sell them for cheap.
