I just bought my Tunze 9010 skimmer($325) from Marine Depot on 7/31/2007 and everytime I do a water change it trips my GFI meaning that its going to ground and faulting out, meaning that there is something wrong with it.. I emailed Marine Depot and Tunze and reported the problem with them I was just hoping someone can help me here??????
Thanx
Anthony
Please help ASAP if you can.... I would hate to have any creatures in my tank die due to the none skimming.........

Now it starts running then it stops.......There is something definetly wrong with it......Has anyone experienced anything like this with this skimmer.......Any input is good input....
Thanx Anthony

I dont use gfi's because they have a tendency to trip and leave you without power but i do own a 9010 that has a problem re-starting after I do a waterchange or a cleaning. I am unable to add the 9010 to my Reefkeeper2 for the feeding mode because of this.
The only way I have found to get it to restart is to take it out of the sump and remove the bottom cover, remove the pump and put it all back together.
PITA but it does do a good job when it is on...

Are you kidding me???? There has to be something that tunze can do for me and you like get us some new ones......cause this skimmer wasnt cheap

it doesnt run at all anymore...........i woke up today to find out that it has completely stopped working........the coralife super skimmer i was runnin might not have been as good but it at least never did this........when i bought this tunze i figured i had been buying good quality stuff.......this is not right if i'm going to have to completely take it apart everytime i do a water changes...... i sure hope tunze does something, I emailed them and marine depot?

Roger, from Tunze will make it right. Things do happen. Your right its not a cheap skimmer, but a very good one at that when working. Read the on Vacation thread, nothing will happen to your tank without a skimmer. I'm sure you will pleased with his customer service when he gets back.

I have had this problem since I bought it. At one point a month ago the breaker poppoed and my wife reset it while i was at work. The pump never really restarted correctly and the impeller broke. Roger sent another one quickly though.

You had me wondering so I went over to the tank and turned off the skimmer. Guess what? I had to disasemble it and reassemble it to get it to turn on and run properly. I have been a huge Tunze proponent but this is making me wonder if I should go with another brand. Besides, I outgrew the 9010 with this last tank.

This shouldnt be like this, everytime you turn it off then back on it won't start working, this better not be the case with mine cause I would like to get a different if possible.....everytime I do a water change I have to turn off my system and then the skimmer wont turn back on??? That cant be right these things should be made to be turned on and off with ease......I'm just praying that this pump is bad and that once its replaced I will be able to turn my skimmer on and off with ease??? The skimmer works great when it was working I just hope it wasnt a one time thing.......
Roger please help me out when you get this
Thanx Anthony

let me know if u got any help from tunze and how long has it been going on for....... if this is a common thing we should complain to tunze directly it was probably a bad batch of pumps that went out...Im waiting for roger from tunze to get in contact with me..... i also emailed marine depot and tunze...i really wanna get this squared away because i spent a pretty penny on this supposed quality built skimmer?

I am not so sure it is the pump that causes my problem. My pump will turn back on but not properly pump. I know this probably doest make sense but thats what is happening. It will turn on and not pump water all the way up. Water will not come out of the back and pump water/air into the neck of the cup until i take it all apart and put it back together again.

One of my 9015's has a bad habit of doing this occasionally. It would chatter after a restart, and not move any water. If the pump has been sitting for a bit such as during a water change, the skimmer restarts with no issues.

Try to lift the skimmer up a bit to start the water moving. I think this puts a little back pressure on the pump and (the water in the skimmer box moving back into the pump) and gets it going again. It seems to behave like it has some air in the impellor chamber, and can't get it cleared unless it sits for a little while or is "cleared".

Just my two cents worth - Roger should be able to help when he gets back.

Cheers,
Ray

Guys,

A very large number of these skimmers have been sold in the USA with no major problems. The forum tends to highlight and focus issues. Please be patient and wait to hear from Roger on his return. As we sell the 240 volt version in Australia I am unaware of the cause we have not had any of these issues I am aware of.

Best Regards
Graeme
