My new A.G.E. SPS dominated reef

wow, gorgeous tank!!! Love your rockwork!

how's the purple tang's temperament when you added the flame wrasses? did he harrass them at all? how big is the purple tang?

Thanks and keep up the good work.

The Purple Tang is around 4.5" long, but it's the foxface that is the real bully in the tank.

What type of system you running?equipment? Any pics?

The sump is custom that I built out of 3/8" cell cast, I have the right side the skimmer section,ATB Small Cone, then the return in the middle, and a frag section on the left. The Frag section is lit by a Giesseman Nova 150W and has a Vortech MP10 for flow. I run a GEO Kalk with my Tunze Osmolator. Calcium Reactor is a Schuran, and I have a Cole Palmer Peristaltic pump for that. For the summer I have a Current 1/3Hp Drop in chiller, and that is controlled by a Rancho. Lights are a 10x39W Powermodule, flow in the tank by 3@MP40W's...I think that's it..lol,

So I got a Majestic, but it wasn't the toughest fish, so I had to bring it back, and get my second choice. This guy is getting along famously, eating anything I put in the tank.

Fantastic looking tank and top notch equipment! I may have some advice. Keep your T5 light cycle down to 7-8 hours total. That powerful ATI unit will stunt the growth of your corals and make them lighter in color. I had months of stagnant growth from having too much light over my tank, granted, my fixture sits directly on top of the aquarium.

Also, how much are you feeding on a daily basis?

Man! Your tank is lookin Great!!!

Thanks, can't wait for my package next week:p

My light schedule is 12 hours of Blue+ and Super Actinics, and then 6 hours of all 10 bulbs....Do you think I need to add the extra hour or two? Been that way from the beginning. Feeding my tank, I don't have a regimine, I basically will give them pellets and flake throughout the day. Maybe toss in some frozen cubes/rods food. I spot feed twice a week, my scolys and chalices. I get Reef Nutrition Rotifers by the quart and squirt a bunch in every three days or so.

Cut the entire schedule down to 8 hours, if you want to run for 10 hours then just keep the actinics on for those two hours, no blue+. The blue+ is an extremely powerful bulb.

I would run it so that your bulbs slowly ramp up. So the first hour or two only the actinics are on. At the peak of your cycle the last set of bulbs should only run for 4 hours or so.

I'll cut back on my photoperiod, how would I slowly ramp up my PM, for being a great piece of equipment, it has two plugs, one that fires 2 bulbs, and the other to fire the other 8. I have actually thought about replacing my blue+ for another actinic bulb. what do you think? Right now I have :
Front.
Blue+
Aquablue special
Super Actinics
Blue +
Aqua Science 22K
Aqua Science 15K
Fiji Purple
Aqua Science 22K
Aquablue Special
Blue+

My dawn dusk is the fiji purple and super actinics, maybe move the fiji purple to where one of the Blue+'s is at, and run two actinic bulbs for the dawn dusk. Thanks for your suggestions.

I guess if you only have two plugs you don't have much choice.

I would consider taking out a blue+ and replacing it with an actinic. So your dawn would be 2 actinic, 1 blue+, 1 fiji purple.

You could cut your second set back to only 4 hours and see how it goes. Definitely try to document the colors and growth so you can tell if it made a difference after a month or two.

I you search on the sps forum there is a thread about "reduced lightcycle" and "improved color and growth" with T5 bulbs. This thread may give you some better information.

Thanks, I will try that. Unfortunately, the Powermodule, has 1 circuit with two bulbs, and the other circuit with the remaining 8 bulbs. I changed my program to run dawn/dusk from 2-10pm and all bulbs from 3-9pm, I'll document any changes.

i have first saw this tank on nanoreefs what doser is that litereef or bubble magus? and how do you like which ever it is

The doser has a timer in it, so it doses each part at different times 20 times daily. It's all in one, and a nice little unit. I dose 160ml a day, so each gets dosed 8 ml x20.

Im in the process of swapping my rock, what a PIA. Somehow I had valonia growing on the inside of one of my Vortechs, and it broadcast seeded a lot of it into my tank. I took one section of rock out, and swapped it out with some nice live rock I got locally. I am going to cook that rock after I do some muratic acid washes to it. Then I'll replace the other structure in a few weeks.
