You're right! I very specifically planned to be out of town for the install! I got text pictures of the progress from afar or I would have been really nervous and annoying I'm sure. My LFS, Fishy Bizness took care of it all with me and my family not there.
Sadly, you're probably right. If I had more money I would be eccentric!
so I ran the water test of the closed loop. no leaks.
The sicce 16's are pretty quiet compared to a machine gun....
anyone have any recommendations for a quiet, low energy 4000gph submersible pump? I've got three of these sicces and they are annoyingly loud from two rooms away with a door closed.

Take a look at the laguna pond pumps. I have never used one but I have only heard great reviews about them and I think they are pretty efficient. The only down side is they don't stand on their own once you take them out of the leaf grates.

Have you thought about/looked at the DC12000L pumps for your application?
Extremely quiet- I currently use one for my RP with a 10 ft head. You won't hear it/them.
Much less exspensive too.

Those are pretty cool looking. The reviews kinda pan them though...
I do not have an OM on this setup. I plan to run mucho vortechs to handle random flow.
Today I replumbed the tank basically. I changed the hard PVC to flex and changed the hard styrofoam bases under the pumps to sponges. Hopefully that will do it. In addition, the pumps will be submerged which will hopefully cut down on noise.
If I lift the pump off, it really makes no appreciable difference (at least yesterday.)
I'll give it another test run on wednesday hopefully.
It might be worth trying these, they certainly are inexpensive. Amazon doesn't have good reviews of their longevity however.
If my current fix doesn't work, I'll probably order one to try out.

What a beast. My 400 lb. fish bowl took 4 guys to move. Don't think there are enough people in the photo.
no not counting the bulkheads....And I used schedule 80! There were more people around, I'm not sure who was a bystander, but I think there were more than 10 of them actually there to help move the tank.

how is the sss5000 working for you? i am torn between an aquamaxx cone 7 or lifereef vs372 . i have about the same water volume as you.

in place. Amazingly and kudos to fishy bizness, the plan went flawlessly. I expected it to get done several hours after dark as several things went wrong, but it worked on the first try. I think start to finish was less than an hour and a half.

I really like the sss5000 on my old ~300g. It works great, had it about 5 years. I haven't installed the dual skimmers yet, but will soon. I can't pull the sss5000 from my 300 until I move the fish etc over.
yeah it will be the wall behind me as I sit at my desk in my home office.

so once I put large sponges under the pumps, replaced the hard PVC with spaflex, and submerged the pumps, all I get is the vibration. I will be insulating the walls which should take out the rest of the vibration from the pumps or at least making it mostly inaudible.
It took 10 days to fill with my RODI system (150gpd water saver.) The sump underneath is full of rocks, and the tank has the rockscaping done. It's not great, but it's okay. I'll get a pic when the water clears.
The second sump (120g) and the steel stand to hold it have been installed. I need to get the 120g refugium installed hopefully this week.
I added salt and got it cycling this weekend. I didn't take pics since it's really cloudy. I put in a bag of live sand and you can't see three feet right now.
I got some powerheads that I'll try to add tomorrow!
