My New AGE tank build! It's big! ~1500g DT

Here's the rockwork in the morning light from the solatubes. No lights are on.

Is that some sort of spray foam? Is it directly on the glass? Do you know that it is chemically inert and will cause no issues down the road?

alin2 and dave m, that is pond foam. It says specifically that it is safe for fish. I am not certain that it won't cause problems on down the road, but all of my tanks have had it since I started in 2007.

First I siliconed eggcrate to the glass. The foam pulls away from the glass and floats if not attached to eggcrate.

What a great build. Do you think the 14 inch Solotubes are sufficient, or would 21 inch ones provide better coverage?

I believe the 21" provide about 2x if not more light. However, they are 3x as expensive and my beams are 16" on center, so the 21's didn't look like they would work.

That aqua scape is dope pickles. Love the solar tube. Are they going to be accented?

I assume you mean will I be adding more lights? I will be adding some LED's. I plan on using some cheap chinese ones and then potentially some radions. The solatubes put out white light, so I plan on using the chinese ones to add actinic, and then the color changing ability of the radions over the day could really work well for supplemental lighting. Using more blues during the day and then a mix into the evening.

Sorry if I missed it but how far of a run do you have on your tubes from top to bottom? Have you measured par?

The run varies as it is under a sloped roof and I had to angle one differently to get it out of the shadow of the chimney. It varies from about 5' to 2'. I haven't measured par yet since I just recently added the water. I will do that soon and then I have some 21" extension tubes that I plan on fashioning into removable cones to make the light go more downward as opposed to outward. Right now, there is a significant amount of light hitting the walls above the water line which I should be able to redirect.

I got my starter skimmer installed. It's got a DC pump so it's really quiet and doesn't have the "power" feeling that my other skimmer has. The pump is adjustable but I don't think that will be relevant for me. Again the plan is to pair this with another skimmer and see if they can handle the load before I buy a mega skimmer. It's in my 120g second sump. I don't like reaching under the tank to do anything, so my plan is to put stuff like this and GFO etc in this easy to reach sump.

Curious to see your par numbers. I have been running 4 solartubes for about 3-4 years but they just don't cut it for me by themselves. My run is about 12-14 feet I would guess and I wonder how much I'm losing because of that. I have a winter shadow issue as well.
