I have them in QT, did you see the subject line? And these guys are going in my 120 in a couple of weeks :D

Missed the QT part of the subject!!! I saw the rock and figgerd they were in the reef. Most peeps don't keep liverock in a QT. Cool fish!

Need to update your sig if you have a 120!!!!!

They are eating like pigs, the big laboutei is still a little shy but I think he is going ot be fine :)

beautiful fish. Last time I was there they had an extremely colorful solar wrasse and flame wrasse (much more colorful than their last ones). .

I don't think I can shell out $300 per fish like you did. But you got some fine specimens!!

This shop has become the premier source for Fairy/Flasher Wrasses in our area. The male Lineatus you scored was just in front of me who would have bought him in a heartbeat. And the pair of laboutei look fabulous. By the way, I too keep live rock in my quarantine tank. I suggest getting a three way breeder to introduce new fish from quarantine into community to diffuse the initial aggression.

Steve I was shocked when I walked in and saw those beauties, I never seen such fine specimens. Deepreef gets in other rare fish, he had a pair of peppermint hogs and a pair of helfrich fire fish. Now I just need to convince him to get a rhomboid in :)

DeltecRules - Beautiful fish! I love the Wrasses and was wondering how many of these pairs can you keep together without aggression? Are you better off with pairs or can you keep several males together. Just asking as I am getting a 225 and would like to get a few for that tank.

Sara -

It is my understanding that males of the same species will fight and one will lose (i.e. be killed). This also extends to those simillar in appearance, but not to the same extent (I have a male Solar wrasse that was being picked on by a Mystery wrasse, but I believe that was more a territorial issue than color - the Mystery was in the tank first). For example, I have heard of people keeping both Linneatus and Rhomboid wrasses in the same tank, but I have also heard these two will fight if territories are not large enough. That said, it is often difficult to tell with some species (particularly the Labouti) which is male and which is female.

The reason to keep them in pairs is so the Male/Supermale (if you can get a Supermale) will retain it's beautiful coloration. Without a suitable female to show off to, a lone male may fade a bit over time. Another reason for me is that I like to see the sexual dimorphism(sp?) between males and females of the same species.

With a 225 you should be fine putting several pairs of wrasses in together. With enough rockwork there will be plenty of caves/holes/hiding places for each to call home. I would look for some with differing coloration (DeltecRules choice of the Labouti and Linneatus is a good one - close in color, but slightly differing body shape and attitude) in an attempt to keep aggression levels and stress down.

For more information on wrasses, speak with Jeff @ Deepreef. He is by far the most knowledgeable fish guy (especially wrasses) that I have encountered and is happy to provide as much information as you could want.

DeltecRules . . . well if you are really interested in a pair of Rhomboids, I know where you can get them and it is NOT locally. Try Twilight Aquatics http://www.twilightaquatics.net for these and other rare fairy wrasses. I just bought a pair of C. rhomboidalis , a pair of C earlie, a pair of C. johnsoni and a harem of flame wrasses from them. They are neither cheap nor outrageous in price. Deep reef will also special order for you if you prefer locally.

Snorvich I been checking out twilight, I plan on odering from brian in a couple of weeks on a pair of rhomboids. How are those Johnsoni and earlie's doing? They look absolutely beautiful. Would you rate them as hardy as any other fairy or flasher wrasse?

Scott

Scott, I just received the pair of C. Rhomboidalis and they LOOK great and are eating vigorously. I won't be getting the pairs of C. earlie and C. johnsoni until May 9 and May 12 because I will be traveling. I think they are as hardy as the vast majority of the fairy/flasher fish but Bronco would know best. I do LOVE these fish. Brian has another fish on his website that intrigues but I am not sure if they are reef safe AND get along well with the fairy/flasher fish. The Fairy Wrasse thread on this forum has a HUGE amount of information. How are your fish doing?

My fish are doing great!! Both laboutei and lineatus are eating like pigs. I was trying to decide between a pair of Rhomboids and a pair of those Johnsoni. The male you did get from twilight was it a supermale? How dull is the girl compared to the boy? I think I will call brian and see if I can get a couple of girl flame wrasses for my big male. Steve can you show some pics of those rhomboids? Thanks

Scott

Steve I contacted brian at twilightaquatics and will be ordering a pair of rhomboids soon. He knows his stuff and answered all my questions promtly. I can't wait til next week when i order :)

Scott

Brian REALLY knows his stuff for sure. You will be VERY happy with your Rhomboids. Mine are out and about and eating on day one. I had great difficulty deciding between the Rhomboids and the Johnsoni so I got both. I also have a small harem of Jordani arriving in May.

Brian's packing is incredible. Just be sure and do a slow acclimation so that there is no shock. Brian ships at low salinity to reduce stress so a drip acclimation or a little by little water addition acclimation will work out well. I will look forward to hearing how you like your Rhomboids!!
