My new baby

One day he would eat, the next day not. I was extremely careful with water quality...tried doing prazi...but just got very skinny fast...

I don't have much luck with prazi on juv angels so I just do hypo for 8 weeks now. Then a few weeks of observation before going into the DT. I know it sucks to take 3 months before they go into the DT but by that time if the fish is still alive it should be nice and fat and eating everything you put in there.

He was never a huge eater. I think this is one of those fish that should have gone directly in the reef.

That's a tough call because I done it twice in a reef and the first time it was devastating and the second time I lost a few of the new additions.

I still think this is a delicate fish especially settling into a new environment but they do well once settled in.

Yeah, I agree. Plus, a 1" version is even more difficult. Lesson learned.

Other than dwarf angels nothing less than 2" even than that's a big risk. Now I prefer 2.5-3.5" juv on med to large angels. Those baby ones are hard to resist. I'm still nervous on my 2" CI emperor that's in QT.

Sorry for your loss , the navarchus angel is very beautiful . I kept a pomacanthus semicirculatus of two inches in QT , he died a two months.

Thanks. It's been a bad few months. This guy, my male genicanthus, my burgessi BF, my two spot halichoeres, and my midas blenny :( :(

I agree ^.

I also recently lost a small (1.5") majestic from LA-DD, Even with 4-5 feeding's a day, it just wasn't enough to sustain. He just didn't eat that well at all. Thin when he arrived and managed about 10 days. I was pretty disappointed with DD on this fish...

I didnt want to say anything when you first posted this thread... Had hopes that your's would do better.

Did you get the smaller one that was posted at the same time? I remember purposely getting the one with a bit more orange.

I believe they were posted within a couple days of each other. I don't remember exactly. Mine had very little pattern change.

yeah, I remember them...one had a tad of orange (mine) and the other didn't. Sorry for you loss. :(

unsure as to whether I'm lucky or that it was local (aust caught) but mine has lasted ~8months and 2 tank moves. I got him on NLS thera A and havent looked back. I also didnt know much back then and just plonked him into a reef without QT. An auto feeder dosing 3-4 times a day and frozen at night has been my feeding regime until very recently when trying to control a phosphate issue. I just wish I could take better photos.

A few weeks after I got him

I'm starting to wonder about DD & the conditioning, QT, ect they claim to do............... based on my personal experiences & threads I've read. They pump out a lot of new fish daily & want a premium price for them............just doesn't add up.

I admit they back up everything with great guarantees, but I'm convinced I could have just as much success from getting fish from my LFS or The Quality Marine section & not have to pay a premium.

I do have to admit that the fish was less than fat when it arrived, and not eating, so I agree that I wouldn't call it a thoroughly conditioned fish. That said, it was only $90, so I don't feel I overpaid. And it did start eating. I think maybe I just didn't have the time/knowledge on caring for such a tiny angel, and the feeding requirements/frequency needed.
