My New GLA 30C Build Thread

ok I am back from vacation and I have only one fatality to report . My little australian black clown jumped out of the tank while i was gone. My wife says it would have happened had I been here or not. So onto the new things that have been done . Since the sump is so small i have had to cram a lot into it There is of course the return pump which is a rio 1400 and a tam rio nano skimmer which up until yesterday has been doing jack for weeks. Now its skimming like crazy. I was able to fit a filter sock around the plumbing and get the water coming down the overflow to pass through it. My plumbing idea does present some challenges when it comes to tank maintenance but the price we pay for nanos. I have the neptune ac3 ph, orp, and temp controller in the sump with extra live rock . My auto top off is also in the sump . It is a digital aquatics ato with an aqualifter pump.

I know the lighting is horrible . I'm in talks with evilc66 from nanotuners to see whether or not their new pico light (that looks awesome in my opinion) will work. So bear with me on the lighting situation. plus there will be plenty begging to the wife for that light. I think some extra bulb selling will be in order after this.

I see the pipe! Very nice small system. Well done and planned. How does the remora nano work for you? I am just guessing but total volume is around 10 or 11 gallons? I like that some rock is exposed at top. I have been playing with this concept in my rock seeding tank. Created a ledge and the MP10 is actually lapping over the top of the ledge. Very nice sound that covers the sound of the Urchin pro skimmer.

Looking forward to seeing the growth of this system. Best of luck to you in this venture.

Its actually a tamm rio nano skimmer. Works ok but I will upgrade the skimmer when money permits and the lighting issue is fixed. Good luck with your tank as well please post a pic i would love to see it.. I cant wait for it to purple up , cant stand the white rock.

Never used a Taam Rio. Always assumed they were junk.

What lighting issue are you working on? Other than getting a nicer way to hold the lamps I think it looks pretty darn good.

I'd send a pic but since the rock is just getting seeded in a separate tank it is not very impressive. I think I will make a video of the water lapping over. When I use a long pulse it actually makes a little foam. Like a real ocean. Wondering if I will actually put this into practice in the display. Is it a good thing or bad? Don't know yet. It does impair the MP10's ability to make a natural looking wave. Although having it lap over the rock is probably the most natural wave I can possibly make. Currently the tank I am doing this in is an ADA 15 gallon rimless. A short 24" tank with 35 pounds of rock in it.

At the present time no, but I may put a colored background on it soon . Still want to get everything ironed out first. Have new lighting options on the table that can change how things look.

Ok ,well I am still waiting for The ai sol nano, it is still not out yet so my tank is not yet complete. Here is an updated pic of the tank

Wow, looking awesome!! :spin1:

Love how the rocks cover up the overflow; very clean! It reminds me of a mini cube version of the Volcano Tank.

You should look into some crabs that might go up on that island. I think sally lightfoots might, although from what I've heard they can get a little opportunistic.

Looking forward to watching it develop! :D
Fingers crossed about those blasted Nano Sols! ;)

This is my new semi picasso clown . He and my b/w got along great first two hours then they had a falling out now he is at the back of the tank. Hope they make up. I got him from a fellow reefer because I was so sick of sick fish at the pet stores. This fish was five minutes down the road , cant beat that. Sorry for the blur but he just wont stop moving. I guess if he did he would be dead. lol

Great looking clown, hope to see a better shot of him eventually :)

I nearly bought an ORA picasso from my LFS today, sooooo tempting!

Awww he's a cutie! Did you say he's got some onyx in him too?

Until the clowns get acquainted I'd definitely recommend making a mesh lid like I did for my tank. It's really easy to put together and you could always make it baggy, or cut a hold in the middle for that island to poke through. I lost the first male clown in my last tank. Females can be such b*tches!

Aaarrggg no , not sure if he does, but looking at pics of the black onyx snowflake clown he sure looks like he has some in him. He does not look like any semi picasso i have seen. Think he is a mix.
