My New Haddoni. Some Q's?

Hello all,

Here is my new nem. I temp. acclimated him for 3 hours since it didnt look stressed and it was soo cold, i then dripped very slowly for about an hour and then aggressivly dripped with water change outs for another hour. I put hm int he tank whent he lights were out so it had 16 hours of darkness, then the sunlight then my lights came on at around 12, i covered with two layers of tint and they are all removed now. He appears to be doing alright , mouth was never really "out" and its closing up nicely. Tell me what you think. Also ive had him for 3 days now, should i give him a krill? I have two black photon clownfish which want nothing to do with the nem right now, but patience is a virtue.

looks like a nice striped green haddoni. If he seems happy and settled it. It wouldn't hurt to give him some food as its been 3 days already.

Looks pretty good. Though I would light acclimate longer -- I go up to 3 weeks.

What flow do you have? Looks like it is retreating a bit.

If it is retreating should i give it less flow? Im still playing with the flow, it is in an area that has good water movement but not alot at all. it seems to be"bunkered down" pretty well with its foot but maybe i will try to back off of the flow by raising the powerhead a bit. Thoughts? and thanks for the advice!

Haddonis aren't fans of a lot of flow, and can make then retreat. So, I would try cutting back the flow, and see how it looks in a day or two. If that doesn't work, I would consider screening the lights again.

No problem, i made sure i put him on the bottom since there is alot less fow down there, but i did move a powerhead lower since i thought it needed more. I will make this change tonight. Thanks again,

Sure thing, and please keep this updated -- making me miss mine (( lots of "m"s there )), green stripe, that I sold about a year ago.

nice looking carpet! Question, is your tank barebottom? and if so, how does the haddoni seem to like it so far? I've been thinking of getting one for my 56 gallon tank, but it's barebottom.

I just made the assumption that it was black sand -- but it could very well be a barebottom tank, and that could be part of the issues.

Any time any of my Haddonis (( have been keeping them for 12+ years )) were in a low sand are they were "unhappy" and moved often.

yeah, now that u mention it, it does look like black sand. Hmm... looks like haddoni's may always be sand dwellers then.

They are naturally sand dwelling anemones. They can/will use the sand bed for protection -- I have seen mine completely retract into the sandbed -- to the point that it was gone.

Guys,

It is actually a barebottom/sand tank but there is sand under those rocks were he is at. I called divers den and they said that this nem loved to attach on and under rocks and was currently only attached to three rocks. The nem hasnt moved an inch since i got it, its foot is attached and buried very deep and good into a few rocks. It seems to be happy, i lowered the flow for it as well. I put a piece of krill near its mouth, it held onto it for about 3 minutes but then just released it.

Advise?

I'm not a big fan of the stripped haddoni's, but I really like the markings on that one. Awesome anemone.

That looks like a BB with a few grains of sand on top to me.

There is no chance my haddoni would sit still in a BB tank. I've tried it. It was a real bad move. These things are unbelievably strong. Mine was lifting large rocks and pushing them to the side as it made its way around my tank.

Adding sand wouldnt be a huge problem, So if it comes to that no big deal. The anemone hasnt moved at all though ..yet.. I did get it to eat some mysis and bloodworms. I think it might be a little to much flow, although its only in bursts sometimes it looks a bit strong, im not sure how i would move it though since its foot is buried soo deep.?? at night ti relaxes and itsnot retracted and apperas to be fine, so im assuming it might be the lighting ?? Does it look bad? i thought it was pretty happy

It doesn't look bad at all, just a bit retracted. If it lesser at night, it could very well be the lights -- I would use some layers of window screening.

While these are different colors, they are still S. Haddonis and can see how they are "out" more,

Thanks todd and everyone else for the help.

At night it is def. out so im thinkigng its the lighting right now. It was under 250W halides but i have 400 watt halides at a 30" depth and my lights are about 12" off the waters surface, which i thought would be o.k. If the nem wasnt happy it would move right? below is a picture after i fed it( 45 min befor elights went out) and then a picture at night about an hour after the lighting went off

I wouldn't trust an anemone to move if it was getting too much light.

Personally, I would put 3 layers of window screening (( supported by egg crate )) b/t the tank and lights. Plan on removing a layer every 5-7 days -- but that can be adjusted to how the anemone reacts. I have done this numerous times and never had an issue with existing corals.
