My new hairy angler with pics!

How do I change this?
I'm thinking A. Striatus because of the worm shaped esca, correct? As opposed to A. Hispidus with a pom-pom shaped esca... pics are below.

So here's the problem. I have a 20L with 10g sump, which would normally be good for a fish of this size. BUT I had planned on doing a mantis in one side and frogfish in the other so I siliconed a baffle into the tank to equally separate it into two 10 gallon sides. Well when I saw this little guy about two months ago I thought I remembered it being about 1.5-2 inches...he's actually about 3.5-4 inches right now. I had originally planned to take the baffle out when either the mantis or frogfish outgrew their side and set up a 10g for the mantis and let the frog have the 20.

SO...should I take the baffle out now? Or wait a few weeks until the fish is settled in? Or would 10gal be big enough for a 4 inch angler for a few months/years? I don't have the mantis yet so don't worry. I'm not big on the idea of keeping him cramped if the 10gal side is too small for his size. I'm thinking that if I take the baffle out tomorrow or tuesday I'll get all the stress out of the way at once. Whereas if I wait a few weeks I'll have to freak the little guy out again. BTW I had to drive about 240 miles roundtrip to get him (Milwaukee), which is why I didn't just pay for him, leave him, go home and take the baffle out, and finally return to pick him up. So what would you guys do?
Ok Here are some pics. The glare from the sand is really messing with the exposure so the detail/contrast isn't that great. :mad2: He is so sweet! :D Man I do NOT wanna go to work tomorrow!
FTS to give you an idea of his size in his side of the tank (he's on the right).

When I looked up anglers at Live aquaria the min. is 70 gal tank for anglers that get up to 4 inches and the bigger ones.
It says cuz they need alot of live rock to live.
It also says in the beginning you could try feeder shrimp to feed it.

Pretty cool but not the easiest fish to keep.

I think the 70g would be for an adult. But "Marine Fishes" by Scott Michael says 30g for this species, and rates it as 4 out of 5 for ease of keeping (5 being the easiest). Frankly I would be more inclined to believe someone who is not trying to sell something or not "playing it safe" for their own sake. So I usually like to get multiple opinions. And I forgot to mention that the lfs had it eating frozen krill already...hand fed none the less. :D

Yep! They got two about a week apart (two months ago). One jumped out of the tank, not sure how that happened. This is obviously the one that didn't jump out. :) He's VERY active right now. Swimming all over the tank. But yes they usually do just sit around. The guy at AU gave me 15% off and just said I was a member of Wisconsin Reef Society. Apparently all members of that club get 15% all the time, so I guess I'll have to register. He also threw in 3 ric frags for free that he just fragged yesterday.

Thanks! Not sure where you live but AU has a Rhino right now for either $350 or $400, can't remember. It was pink when they got it in but has changed to the color of the one in your link. It's about 3-4 inches. I didn't ask what he was eating. But the guy said he didn't think they'd ever sell him so you could probably get a good deal. Worst case scenario, just register on WRS and you "only" get 15% off. :D Another very cool fish.

^^^ How did you find that? I can't find it anywhere on the site unless I use that link...

What's the divers den?

Might as well check it out. They didn't mind feeding mine for me, so you probably shouldn't have a problem.

Go to liveaquaria.com and find the Divers Den section and click on the fish button. Divers Den is a WYSIWYG section of Live Aquaria.

He's doing good. Pretty much only sits on the same side as he did with the baffle in though. He took half of a silverside on thursday (very big one). I'm about to feed krill today.

Didn't know your boss checked this out! Hope you're not in trouble. :)

That has to be one of the coolest anglers I have seen. AU does get some nice fish from time to time.
I would pull the baffle out & skip the mantis all together. Or put the mantis in a sump/fuge. If the mantis is a clubber, & your baffle is thin, he may break the baffle to get to your angler.

I already pulled the baffle out on tuesday, and if I still decide to get a mantis, I'll put it in my sump. Funny thing is that he still sits on the same side he did when the baffle was in! He "explore" the tank for a few days, but now he likes to sit on my rics and zoos. :D
