Just don't use that cpr overflow and you should be fine, I would seriously consider drilling it or buying it pre drilled as you will need 2 drains anyway and the chances of both clogging at the same time are a huge longshot. I haven't personally used those pumps but as long as you have enought flow at the head height your pumping to it will be fine.

drill the tank I kick myself in the butt everyday for not doing it. but now I have 220 gallons of water, 300 lbs rock,10-15 corals and 15 fish plus all my inverts and sand. I just can't just tear it down and start over although i am thinking I will soon. you'll regret it in the long run if you don't

I have already bought my new tank. It is a 125g All glass. I am doing a center overflow, and will drill 4 drains in the back. The sequence barracuda is going to push about 2750GPH at the 12ft head I am going to run. My drains will be 1.5".... rated approx 1000 gph ea, I shouldbe fine... but am still considering dividing the sump to minimize any chance of a flood. I figure the pump chamber of the sump will only hold about 20g... that way,... if for ANY reason... My drains slow down, or get plugged, or anything else, only 20g will be pumped from the basement into the tank. It is basically the same type setup I have on my 55g, (with the CPR) and it has kept water off my floor several times.. I know it is a very small chance that something could restrict my drains enough to cause a problem... but Im not willing to leave myself open to 150g of SW on my floor, however small the chance.... because with my luck... it would happen...I am also poking two more holes in it to run a sequence dart CL... I should end up with about 4000gph flow... I HATE the look of powerheads in the corners of the tank.... and this way, there will be no need for any...

For FOWLR it should be OK but for coral that require more flow say SPS, you will need additional pumps. Im using 2 Tunze 6200s and a wave box in my new 150 display. Flow is quite overlooked until it's to late.

I'm pushing somewhere around 6600gph but I think I'm going to add an additional Tunze 6100 to the mix, my corals are loving it so far though, I switched out the 2-250watt MH for 2-400watters last night, giving me a total of 1530 watts/ 8.5 wpg. MUCH better.

Ok, first, how could it EVER be too late to drop a powerhead in the corner of a tank? Dont understand that one.. but anyways...
Secondly...
I have no intention or desire to keep SPS. I have a couple pieces of SPS, and prefer the LPS and softies. BUT I still dont see a flow problem here, nor see the need for powerheads. figure this.... 4000GPH (and thats conservative) on a 125g tank = 32 x turnover per hour.. I dont see where that is not enough flow? enlighten me please????!! The CL will be returning to the tank VIA 5 3/4" loc line nozzles.. and the return from the main pump will split at the tank and be routed into each end... and I am running an INTERNAL center overflow w/4 1.5" drains.

OK, I just took the time to actually look up a sequence flow chart...

The dart, which will run my CL is 3600gph @ 0 ft head.. I am going to be running about 3 foot head on it... chart says approx 3400 gph... + my sequence barracuda (return pump from sump in the basement), (same link as above)4300gph @ 0 ft head, 2750gph @ 12ft... (which is about the head height this pump will run) so... 3400 + 2750 = 6150 gph / 125g turnover rate = 49.2, and you say not enough flow? I dont need niagra falls!!! I see no need for powerheads as long as I can direct the CL where I want it.. fishmon runs 6600gph on a 180.. = 36.6 X turnover. Looks like his SPS are happy? I dunno, maybe I am missing something here.. Point is however, I will have plenty of flow, and flow was not even the direction I was going with my posts in his thread... I was seeing how his rubbermaid stock tank was set up, for ideas for mine.. (ok, hope all that made sense..)

Jason don't shoot the messenger, do what you want, I just thought I would share my own experience with you in this as I have more than enough to speak on it. I threw out some advice, take it or don't I really don't care. Like I said most underestimate flow, it's something you learn over time and nearly everyone on this forum will tell you the same thing.

Easy: It's too late when you find your coral dying and only figure it out in the end after eliminating every other possible reason for there demise.

That would be the challenge would'nt it? Plus it's not just about blunt water force, it's about creating serious chaos that emulates a reef environment.

Oh I'm sure he will be adding more flow in due time those SPS will be even happier under say 75X turnover

If your planning on always having a softie/ LPS tank. I would think 30 times turnover is enough flow to keep everything happy. But IME if you decide to get into SPS you will need more flow.

I'm 86ing the 6100 for 2 6201's w/ controller, the corals are showing great growth so far. I'm just over 2 months in. I am considering a wavebox w/ the 62's, the things are friggin awesome, after putting one in the store display and installing 2 others this week they really kick butt! I had this killer piece of barney purple Montipora danae that was the size of a softball but one of my customers snagged it as soon as it hit the water. (sucks I gotta sell this stuff too sometimes) but it all helps to finance my new Tunze addiction! Anyway here are a few more tank shots, I will be adding a female wantanabe angel along with a golden dwarf angel if its still there tommorow. Oh and I got one of the golden dwarf moray's this week but the guy who posted on here about his took it too. Same guy who took the danae (you know who you are and I want a frag) Anyway, here they are...

Wow I would loved to have seen the eel and I'm not even an eel person. I know, I know we'd have to actually come by :lol:. We've been trying but not enough time lately.

I just got the reactor on line so the column is a little cloudy and I only have it about 1/4 full of media (it holds like 84 pounds) My new additions are the mini CA reactor Deltec PF1001, Reef keeper 2, Deltec KM500 Kalk reactor, and Tunze osmolator (my diy ATO worked perfectly and its a long story why I switched it to tunze but anyway) And just fyi the temp on the thermometer in the pic is the temp of my topoff tub to the left.
