my new leopard wrasse - Macropharyngodon negrosensis

This female was at the local fish store eating frozen, picking pods off rocks, and looking great. She's the first black leopard I've seen in person, and she's much prettier than I thought they would be. Her body is black with a slight indigo blue sheen, her dorsal area is a light yellow-cream color, and her tail and fins have reddish iridescent streaks.

Drip acclimated her for 45 minutes to get from roughly 1.023-1.025, put her into my DT, and she immediately started swimming about, and was hunting pods within 5 minutes. None of the other fish in my tank cared much about her presence except the Royal Gramma who showed her big mouth when the leopard got close to her cave. Leopard stayed away from her, but barely seemed phased. She stayed out for a few hours, and the second the lights started to dim she put herself to bed. Slept in this morning but was up and swimming about by early afternoon. Ate mysis when she got up, cyclopeeze for dinner, and is definitely snagging pods off the rocks and sand. Fingers crossed she keeps doing well!!

That's awesome! They have tough character, I love my melagris, she doesn't take anything from anyone. Great find. Good luck w her & us posted.

Thanks everyone! She's still doing great, and does seem to have a nice personality. She's not shy or skittish, but also not at all aggressive. When the Royal Gramma swims at her with her mouth wide open the leopard just swims a short distance away (like 2 inches) and goes back to hunting pods. She's been up for about 7-8 hours each day, gobbles up mysis and ova with the rest of my crew, and has been a perfect tank citizen so far :)
