My New Tank is here!!!

Thanks. It's massive as well. Diver's Den is definitely the way to go.

Yeah I picked up the Sunset Milli a few weeks ago, probably going to take some time for it to color up though. A lot of my corals are ticked off from being transferred and changing up the bulb spectrum.

I'm cleaning some things up here and am going to try and post a FTS later.

Finished up my light rack tonight:

Still running 250w DE Pheonix 14k bulb.

I moved and mounted some corals, so I'm going to wait until tomorrow when they open up... or maybe until I add the anthias for a FTS.

Looks great TJ. Ok I have a few LPS questions for you. I am wanting to get into some of the higher end LPS; Acans, Chalice, etc. What kind of flow can they handle? My 75 is all SPS, except for some zoas and mushroom at the bottom, but I have tons of flow. I'm worried that these corals will not do well... and I just don't have that kind of money to spend for $90 small acan colony to perish. Thanks!

I just keep them out of direct flow. They are basically in the undertow created by the Vortech MP40. So there is a decent amount of flow passing them, but not enough hitting them directly that the polyps are flying one direction. I also try to keep them in the less turbulent regions of the tank, and I tried to situate the chalices in the less lit (less intense) areas. However all my chalices, especially the Tubs Alien Eye seem to be doing great in the new tank, and oddly enough look a little nicer IMO than they did under the 20k lighting.

The nice thing is that chalices and acans will let you know if they are unhappy. The eyes will squint or shrink up if they are in too much light, and the acans will do the same with their polyps. I had to move everything around a few times until I got it right... it's pretty much trial and error until you find the sweet spot.

So far it's been my observation that Chalices are more light responsive, and Acans are more flow responsive.

IMO neither will kick the bucket overnight as long as it was a clean frag job.

Oh, and I've also been spot feeding my Acans once or twice a week with Mysis. I hear you can do the same with Chalices, and finely chopped Mysis... but have yet to take the time to try it.

My Cotton Candy chalice is the only one besides my Steel Blue Chalice that has really noticeable feeder/sweeper tentacles that extend when I feed the tank though.

Awesome thanks TJ! I have a spot under my blue mille that is somewhat shadded that I thought a watermelon or a black cherry chalice would look nice, so maybe I'll give that a try then see about some good priced acans.

FTS as I'm heading into my first algae cycle. Believe it or not, there's actually 10 fish in there.

(1) Midas Blenny
(2) Yasha Hase White Ray Gobies
(2) Red Banded Hi Fin Gobies
(5) Bartlett Anthias

They are Maricultured. So sort of...

They are collected wild, then sent to a facility where they are sliced, diced, and mounted then placed in shallow lagoons in large grow out beds for a time period. Then eventually they are harvested and sent into retailers.

I would classify them as wild since they are still growing in an uncontrolled environment (with regards to light, water, flow, etc...). However, there is also a good argument that they are not true wild colonies since they are no longer growing in their natural reef environment.

Right, I have always liked Maricultured corals because you get the size of a wild colony but they haven't been cut and shipped. I haven't had much luck with Maricultured though. Hopefully those will do well for you. I love the green one! I wasn't able to call you today as I had a late flight but I should be back in Cleveland tomorrow so I'll try to give you a call about that Hawkins.

I've had the blenny for 5 months without issues... I've only had the Anthias for about a week, but no issues yet.

My midas got spooked by my glass magnet one time and jump right thru one of the openings in the egg crate i have for a cover....went about a foot over the tank...hit me in the chest....then hit the floor...I promptly scooped him up and threw him back in.....he's been fine since...

My Blue Flasher Wrasse, Cliford, has gone tile surfing twice. Both times I was standing right in front of the tank... I just threw him back in and he's been fine. I think he just likes to show off for me.

I had a flasher wrasse, my wife's favorite....went floor surfing twice.....my son saw him do it the first time...and the day b4 I added the egg crate top....he did it during the night.....was a crispy critter by daylight....but he did get good distance...about 4' from the tank....a new p.r..

Haha... I've heard they usually do it at night. I'm probably going to have a removable cover built for the tank that will go on at night.

I plan on adding a wrasse or two... not sure if it will be a flasher or not though.

Hoping to get a Mystery and Christmas... or something along those lines.

He used to put his dorsal up and speed from one side of the tank to the other...right before the lights went out...like he was doing a burnout before going down the quarter mile....or my hallway in this case...
