It's going to be a plywood tank. The sheet you can see is plain old 1/2" ply I'm using to build a work table to actually make the tank on (none of my workbenches are big enough!) Behind it is a stack of 3/4" oak ply for the tank itself. I'm on the fence about exact dimensions, but 72" long and 24" high. Width somewhere between 42 and 48". So, 300 - 350 gallons, plus or minus.

I've got a LOT of work to do and it's going to be a slow build, but it's starting to feel "real" which is cool!

Going to be a great thread to follow! Did you consider marine grade plywood for the build? It has more plies, less internal voids & is really stable.

I'm kind of disappointed you're not making out of random parts and an underground filter you have in your basement... but I think this will be better. Your last rig was well thought out.

I still have most of that old junk. And I still want to set up a tank using it all just to spite the new-skool people who claim it won't work.

But this tank is going to be the other direction. I'm probably going to put more time and effort into the lighting than the tank itself, for one thing. . .

I'm going to do the pour method. Not sure on brand yet. I've used West Systems for all my other composite work (I'm a closet composites geek) but it's expensive at this volume, so I might look for a cheaper alternative. There are a couple internet mailorder places that have cheap house brands, and I know at least a few wood tank guys have used some of those with success.

reefman, the consensus from the ply tank experts is that marine ply is an unnecessary extra for something like this, and it's really expensive anyways. I ended up with oak hardwood ply. It's going to be a bit of a shame to cover all that nice oak up, but leaving it exposed doesn't really fit into my aesthetic design for the system.
