Ok, so it's not entirely for my tank, but if I didn't have an aquarium, we wouldn't have made the purchase.
I now have a whole house generator with the automatic transfer!!!
I feel so relieved knowing that I don't have to worry about the power going out. I don't have to turn on the generator and check to make sure it runs before the bad storm gets here. It runs the maintenance all on its own. In the testing, it took less than a minute from the time the electricity was cut until the generator kicked in. That's less time than it takes for all my water to drain and the siphon breaks to stop the water.
Our power goes out all the time. At least monthly, it seems, and it's usually out for 3 hours or so.
The peace of mind knowing that if I'm out of town and the power goes out, that I have back up, without having to ask a neighbor to help is worth it.
I'd take a picture, but it's currently blockaded by snow.
