My Next Breeding Hopefuls

I've been looking for quite some time for these guys and I finally picked up my 5 I special ordered this morning. I hope to get a nice breeding pair out of them ... maybe 2 pairs. They are in QT right now, but they will have full run of my 90G refugium (full live rock, PC lights, etc.) once I'm sure they're clean. Eventually, they will go in their own 90G cube.

Couple quick pics of them just after acclimating into QT:

Wow!I thought that thats what they were.I have a friend that breeds them.He sells his to.Did you buy them cptive raised?

Upon looking at them harder, I'm struggling to determine if they are really chrysogasters or actually allardi's. I ordered these from a very reputable source as wc gasters - I didn't stumble across these. If they end up not being gasters - it was an honest mistake. That source had both allardi's and gasters available at the time, so there was some level of distinction with them. If I had more mature individuals it would be much easier - gasters clearly carry more black and brighter yellow bellies where the allardi are more of a uniform brown body.

The key item that concerns me on mine is that the belly color doesn't have much of yellow color distinction from the rest of the body - mine have a more uniform color. However, the shot I have of a known juvi gaster isn't that distinct either (below). Mine are all 1" - 1.5". I'm guessing the juvi gaster might be smaller.

The other trait that bothers me a little is that the middle white stripe on mine doesn't bleed at the top towards the tail as much as other gasters I've seen. Then again, one of the allardi shots I have does have the same wipe back on the middle stripe, but it is a little older. The tail shape is hard to tell too. Mine are very close to circular, as close as some other gaster shots I've seen, but not as close as others.

They are lovely clowns either way, but I really only have space for one more species. I'd prefer that to be gasters vs. allardi.

Any help on a definite ID from those who had/have gasters? Here's a couple more photos. Sorry - wish I had a better camera. I also put some allardi & known gaster photos in.

Thanks,
John

Juvi Gaster (not that much color distinction on belly or really a round tail)

Gaster pair (clearly showing distinction, but unsure of size compared to mine "“ look a lot larger)

Allardi (looks real close to mine)

Another allardi (pretty different from the pic right above)

They could be juvenile Gasters or they could be young, mature Allardi. Maybe you can wait for it to play out. If they are Allardi then sell them and obtain Gasters.

i was about to comment on your nice looking allardi's as well....until i saw that you had ordered chrysogasters...

im with chris, pretty sure you have allardi's.

I thought the same thing, Allardi, was surprised to read that they were supposed to be blue stripes.

Yes, I believe they are allardi's. I think the big give away now is the 3rd stripe. Regardless of age in both species, the 3rd stripe on the gasters is always distinct and clearly makes it all the way to the bottom of the tail connecting to the other side. The allardi's 3rd stripe never goes all the way to the bottom.

Of my 5 new clowns, only one has a 3rd stripe that makes it close to the bottom. The others only go half way or less.

Any votes for gasters??? I'd still like to think I'm not back to looking for them again, but I think that is where I am at.

They are Allard's however you shouldn't be disapointed since those are still awesome clownfish! Good luck with the project!

sorry i meant to say that they were allardi, sorry. believe me, I've been on the look out for gasters for years and no one has them or should I say they will not sell them to me?
