My not bleached White Gigantea

I got this Gigantea from Petco about 1 week ago. Tiny only 3 inches or so but fully expanded and not bleached. The tip of the tnetacles are as white as it can be, may be just a hinted of yellow. I hope he will stay this color, because I think this is rather rare. The tiny guy is doing very well in my tank and is eating every day at this time. I noy feed him about 1/2 cm3 shrip or fish a day. He eat like a champ. Just about 1 week and his tentacles are noticibly longer and is getting bigger. Wish me luck. I think he is a keeper.

Hi Minh,

Nice find. I have seen a few giganteas and haddonis that have had opaque white tentacle tips like yours. I think I posted a few wild white anemone pics a long while back. The anemones I have seen almost looked like they had been dipped in white paint. It was definitely a white pigment and not just a lack of pigment. Good luck with your new guy. I am pretty sure the white tips will stay that way.

The Atlantic Carpet do not have (m)any fold. Most of the time they look like pillows, not like an anemone with multiple folds like Gigantea or Haddoni. Once you see them, IMO, it is really easy to tell Atlantic carpets from Gigantea or Haddoni.

Greenish near the foot and pinkish red verucae. There was no question in my mind about the ID of this anemone so the pictures are just to show this anemone, not for ID purposes. Also my onyx A. percula is already into the anemone, so no Atlantic carpet here.

I'd really like to see a shot of the underside as well. At least the verrucae. Not doubting the ID. Just would like to see what "pinkish red verrucae" look like on a gigantea.

I will try over the next few days. He moved from the rock and started to go into the rock/sand area. Tomorrow, when I feed him as he fold over the food, I will take a picture. He did this today when I fed him.

you sure that's not a riterri? I'm not an expert but it looks closer to that than it does a gigantea...that and riterri's are common in that color

Odd. I'm fairly positive that's a Magnifica but you say it has verrucae? I've never seen a H. Magnifica with prominent verrucae. The tentacles appear too thick to be a S. Gigantea. That's a common color for H. Magnifica especially with the white tips. How does the anemone close up at night time? A picture of that would be nice.

On a side note, the folds are not a good indicator of what species it is. I once had a blue S. Haddoni that never folded and it was under strong T5 lighting. In my current tank, I have a green BTA that seems to think it's a Gigantea because it folds. How do I know it's a BTA? It's split for three times (avatar). And yes, some H. Magnificas fold depending on individuality and current.

After doing well for 2 weeks, it decline quickly and died. I am not sure why. Everything else are doing great in the tank.

Sry about the bad turn of events. I'm in the same boat as you were, mine started great and declined quickly. It still inflates a bit for a couple of hours through out the day, but deflates quite a bit. What are the for sure signs it's time to take it out of the tank?

I hate to admit it but petco often gets some really cool specimens in.. I just can never fully trust them

Deteriation, flesh literally falling away and smell. Anemones smell horrible when they die. I hope yours gets better!
