How are you raising the ph . Are you using a buffer of some kind or just a lot of water changes assuming your water has a higher PH?

Both. I use buffer one day and water changes the next, 30% with fresh instant ocean/RODI water.

I normally do 30% water changes weekly in growout. I really ought to just go and get some natural seawater during incoming tide in the weekend, but I'm afraid of introducing pathogens into growout.

ya Im not sure where in South Florida you are located but I always wandered why you couldn't go a mile or so off shore and fill up a few 50g containers. I have family on the Tampa Bay so for them it wouldn't be wouldn't be worth it since they would have to travel 20 miles to get to the gulf and then another 5 or so miles to get into clean water.

Ernie,

What is your "usual" hatch day from the time your clown lays eggs? 7th day?

Also do you make your own phyto to feed your rots? What's your procedure there?

Thanks,

I haven't raised batches since my male went sky diving, but typically at 80F hatch night was on the 7th day. I use apbreed's RGComplete to feed the rots and to tint the water in the fry tanks for the first few days.

I would need a boat to get a mile out. A few years back when I was younger and had more time (i.e. was single), I would drive down to the keys on the weekends and fill up about 50 gallons worth under the bridge where there was a lot of flow. The water was always crystal clear and never had issues with my fish back then, but I didn't have tank raised babies to worry about either.

Did you ever use the Rotigrow Plus before?
If you have which do you like better Rotigrow Plus or the RG Complete?

One of the clowns in the aclimation tank got roughed up so I had to move him back to grow out. The others just ganged up on him. Odd, he was also one of the bigger ones in the bunch.

Might be kind of like when I see the little birds "sparrows" chasing after a Hawk. Big birds always getting picked on by the smaller ones... I have never understood that.

This kind of gives merit to my theory that when hundreds are around, the bickering is not worthwhile, but 15 in a 10 gallon tank, then "there will be only two" eventually.

They give me cash or store credit. I chose cash of course. $5.00 each for 15 at a time. I have to compete with ORA, since they are just a couple hundred miles from me.

My LFS sold 10 of the 15 as of yesterday. I'm taking another 12 today. They DO NOT look happy in the small display cubicles, hard to see them, but hopefully they will find good homes. I will probably be keeping around 30 in the growout tank and will begin to put some of my BTA's into the tank when I get down to the 30 or so.

nice job. I'm sure they are finding great homes. I personally enjoy the clowns the way they are found in the wild and not the "designer" breeds. Even though they may not be worth as much, they seem like they are much easier to get rid of after they grow out.

what kind of feeding schedule did you have these guys on through the first month? I read that you had your wife feeding them every 2 hours? How much/many rotifers did you give them a day? Im trying to determine how many culture buckets I will need.
