My Onyx Died.

well..its a sad sad day..

I came back from a trip to visit some family, i left friday, came home last night..I went straight to bed after a 12 hour drive..woke up today..and my treasured Onyx are dead..Im in between tanks so i put them in a 25 gal. tank with 3 other fish (my pair of squareback anthias and a CBB). Everything was perfect before i left..Everything, including 3 corals (SPS) are dead. I really really REALLY feel like crying right now. The new tank is being built to accomodate the clowns. It was built around them..now its all gone...its all f...ing gone...

That really sucks. I know how special my onyx are to me. I wonder what could have happened in those few days. . . I almost wanna say it could be the temp?
 
animated- Any guess is as good as any :( . i have no idea what happened..i blame myself for not checking them last night. When i walked in the door i saw my squareback male swimming around..so i guessed everything was fine..but it wasnt.
 
Thanks embryo--I really feel like giving up and selling whatever i have left..the new system was just for them..it sucks.
 
iReef69, I'm also really sorry for your loss! I'm more attached to my Onyx, even though they aren't close to the most expensive tank inhabitants!

Hey, mourn a while, shake it off, build the tank and call Rod for a nice new pair of Onyx. You'll get over the loss and you'll have a new pair for the new tank! :)

We've been there and we are with you!

I am very sorry to hear this. Maybe you can get a Onyx from Rod. Let me know if you are going to do this because I want to do this also. Maybe we can save shipping by order them at the same time. Cheer up.

FIBER- Thanks so much man, that really means alot. You are right, i should go on with the project..things happen for a reason. Thanks for your kind words.

Mihn- Ill definitely contact Rod about getting a new pair..but i want to get this tank up and running, should be a couple of more weeks.

Jov- thanks..Seems like there is a bad luck bug going on :(

I really feel like a person died..thats how attached i was to my clowns, they were my jewels, my pride and joy..i waited A LOOOONG time to get them, and now they are gone..People might say "its only fish, get new ones!"..but it goes beyond that..I just buried them in my back yard..the toilet was not worthy of their bodies..:(
 
iReef69, I'm close by Rod's place, so let me know if you need me to go to his place and hand pick you another pair..... As if I need another excuse to visit all of those cute baby Onyx..........:D

BTW, I didn't even make that offer to embryoguy when he got jealous over my new mis-barred Onyx! ;)

FIBER- Thanks so much man, thats a very generous offer..i REALLY appareciate it, people like you are hard to come by.

My gf is visiting her brother in chicago in Oct. How far is Rod's place from..the city?..I was thinking maybe she could go by and check things out..maybe she'll find "the pair"..:)
 
iReef69, Rod's Reef is in DeKalb, home of Northern IL University!

I'm thinking it would be a good two hour drive from the city. If she does decide to visit Rod's place when she's out here, have her call him in advance to set it up, so he's there and not out on calls or picking up supplies / livestock.

FIBER- ..Yeah, i dont think she'd want to venture 2 hours away from the city..so i will gladly take your offer :) ..but not if its a long drive for you, i dont want to make you go out of your way to hit Rod's, unless you live close or are already thinking about going there. I will let you know as soon as the new system is up and running.

I see your occupation is lighting design..let me ask you this.. How much do you know about reef lighting????..
 
iReef69, Rods is only an hour from me and I'm always looking for an excuse to go see him and all of the nieces and nephews (clowns that is!) :D

Just let me know when you are ready. I'll choose em, based upon your preferences!

As far as lighting, I've been designing and selling lighting for 30+ years, but mainly commercial and residential buildings. I did get to work on some really fun projects at Shedd Aquarium, but that's another story.

I'm presently working on several aquarium lighting type of things, but it'll be some time before I'm ready to retire from my present business and do reefing and reef-lighting full time.

I'm mainly playing with LED and fiber optic lighting and looking at the possibilities to replace the current Metal Halide and fluorescent sources we all use today.
